League: All-Star Mogul
Teams: New York Mets vs. Cincinnati Reds
Date: April 5, 2004
BOTTOM OF THE SEVENTH
Kevin Young came in to play First Baseman.
Todd Zeile came in to play Third Baseman.
David Lamb came in to play Third Baseman.
Delino DeShields came in to play Left Fielder.
This has become a MAJOR problem. 9 times in the first 21 games! And that is just at 3B. It has also happened 2 times in LF. So far, in my first 21 games, I have had 11 players enter as defensive replacements only to be replaced by another player before a single pitch is thrown. This needs to be fixed!

I think the only solution is to get rid of the worst manager in baseball, Bobby Valentine.
Seriously this bug is really annoying. Wasting 2 or 3 players on a defensive replacement is pretty stupid. There are so many baseball strategies that are annoying, defensive replacements is up there along with guarding the lines.

It is apparent that few ppl actually check out box scores. I don't myself I dont know why but I should. I am putting a challenge to all active GM's out there to check out the boxscores so we can make the game even better!
Maybe Clay should add a NEW feature call "Strategies"

The home version, which is fantastic, does have strategies.
You can choose how much you want to do the following (for example):
defensive replacements
stealing
advancing runners on outs
hit & run
let pitchers pitch through jams or yank em early
squeeze plays
sacrifice bunting
Clay, is there a reason this hasn't been implemented online? Is it too taxing on the AI?
Maybe the strategies on the Offline version was already useless, so Clay doesn't wanna waste any resource on the Online Verison.

I don't mind defensive replacements, in fact I encourage them. But my team now has done this double defensive replacement 17 times in 39 games. I'd be really mad if my Mets weren't 30-9 and leading the league. I guess good pitching and good hitting can overcome stupid managing.

We're up to 22 times in the first 57 games! I guess this is Valentine's way of telling Zeile that he really stinks.
I think we should stop making jokes on Valentine, AT LEAST he's the manager for the NL all star team......

I'm hoping that I will get a reply from Clay, James, or somebody about this. This has now happened 28 times in 76 games. In 37% of my games, I essentially lose one bench player due to computer error. Once, I had 3 defensive replacements at the same position! I have never tracked this before, so this may be happening all the time.

I'll try to fix this right now. Thanks for pointing it out.
As for porting the strategies from the CD-ROM game, it's pretty straightforward but I've postponed it since I saw some backlash on these boards indicating that the game is more fun as a "GM-style" game than as one where you tweak the manager's decisions.
If you don't own the CD yet, please buy a copy (http://www.sportsmogul.com/orders/index.htm) so you can see the extra features it offers. I'm about to release a new CD patch, and we could use the money...

I like the idea of general strategies, since the GM is the one who hires the manager.
Maybe the strategies could stay fixed for each season,
or you'd have to fire a manager at a certain cost to change strategies
I dunno!
For private leagues at least, it would be a nice option (to have strategies or not)

Thanks, Clay. I don't really mind Zeile being wasted these games. He might actually do more harm than good on the field, but I've started to be hit with the injury bug, and could use the extra body.
By the way, I own BBM 99, 2000, and 2002, and am about to order another copy of 2002 for my uncle for Christmas. I will also buy 2 copies of the new FBM when it comes out. Thanks for the great products (even though they tend to favor Boston.;) ).

I like the manager tendency options. This is somewhat of a GM feature as the GM will hire a manager who has the tendencies that the GM is looking for.
I also miss the ice cream and concession pricing that was in one of the older versions of the program. Although the GM wouldn't necessarily make those decisions, they do affect your revenue and thus your ability to pay players.
