View Full Version : Ideas to increase human to human trading...

For those that are in the private leagues, you know that trading slows down significantly after the first season (Which I personally don't have a problem with, but other do). Anyways here are a few ideas that might increase trading.

1) Have certain underpaid players and just certain players out of the blue become disgruntled. I think it would be interesting to read in the headlines that so and so player has insulted the city and demanded a trade. Not trading the player could result in hurting the fan base of the city. This happens in real life and I think it would be a cool thing to have happen occasionally. Just as a catalyst for trades. This would also make players think twice about bargain hunting too much during free agency. Salary arbitration might also be cool, but I don't think it's necessary as small markets are already hindered enough in this game.

2) The future of young players is currently too predictable. C and D players are pretty much mediocre for life, so packing them into a trade (when dealing with humans) is pointless, since both players know that these players will never amount to much. Rookies need to be more of an enigma, the occasional star prospect with really good ratings needs to flop, and the occassional rookie with C and D ratings needs to blossom into a superstar. I'm not saying it should happen all the time, but just enough so that when you are offered 4 C prospects, you have a half decent chance that one of them will amount to something. And the occasional flop will make players actually consider trading a young prospect with good ratings. As it is now, a young player is worth more than even an established star since, the young player will play longer and everyone knows that the young player will eventually start producing.

I love both those ideas particleman described. especially the disgruntled players, it would help. its just not realistic the way it is now. a 33 year old making 15 points would rather go to another team in the majors making 6 points than stuck in the minors for the rest of his career making more money.

this might be hard to code...but would add an awesome realism to the game. this would be great for the dynamics between small and large markets- a player might want out of a losing small market to go play for a winner.

make another rating for personality if you are going to do that though. That way you have an idea of how likely a person is to up and do this to you.

Personally, I hate the disgruntled player idea. <sorry> Even a disgruntled player can - and usually does - bring fans to the ball park. Witness the Rocker controversy, and Sheffield. The fan base was not hurt at all. It just brought out the boo birds, and hecklers.

And as far as your comment about talent goes, that seems to depend on whom you talk to. I've seen posts that have complained that the scouts are way off the mark way too often. ALways, the complaint is that the guy under performed.

But, I have seen players who have a mix of B / C ratings perform very well for a stretch. Sometimes for a full season. SO, from my limited exposure (4 leagues - a total of 14 seasns) the seem to be doing an OK job of that.

But I do agree with you that currently, no one wants to trade for C's, because they don't think that they will ever progress into anything usable.

Also, A prospects never seem to flame out when they reach the bigs. They always perform well. The Milton Bradley's and Chad Hermanson's do not seem to be well represented in this game.
