I have lost games due to late inning errors from defensive replacements. At first, I thought that it was just a coincidence, until I looked into the replacements. Here is an example of a recent replacement:

LF Starter Ben Grieve .974 +1%
LF Defensive Replacement Delino DeShields .947 -61%

I have also had defensive replacements who rate C D- D in the fielding catagories.

I think the reason for some of the bad replacements is that I have 2 players who are technically out of position, but Kendall has been playing 3B for 3 seasons, and Grieve is listed at RF but playing in LF.

I think that we should have the ability to limit or eliminate defensive replacements if they are hurting our team. I have heard the arguements that some owners don't want to control these types of factors. To these owners, I say don't. Leave them all at the default. But those of us whose teams are being hurt should have the ability to stop the bleeding.

Remember that range is chances divided by games. So, defensive replacements will have fewer chances by default.

Unless the makers of the game do the more realistic thing and actually use chances per inning, then multiply by 9.

If that is not the case, it should be, so that defensive replacements are more accurately represented.
