View Full Version : Which package are you gonna buy???
We will have to pay for this game soon, which is extremely sad.

I'm kind of looking forward to the pay leagues - hopefully they'll weed out the losers and the whiners.

It should also weed out a good number of the cheaters/pranksters who thought it was a laugh-riot to log into a free team, trash it, and then leave.

I have always thought that Baseball Mogul was one of the best games I have ever played and I have no fear of paying to play. I am opting for one team to keep my costs down but also I want it to be realistic like I was one owner of a real team. This way I can also spend more time on stats which is what I like. During the Beta I have been trying to keep track of nine teams and that is too time consuming.

How is the launch of the live version sad??? Maybe you are just too selfish to pay for such a carefully developed game.
I'm only doing one team, as I found I could not manage more than one because of my obsesion of box scores.

Don't be so harsh, takaplan. Maybe he's a youngster, and does not have access to a credit card.
calm down you two, i WILL STAY FOR SURE 120%, so just CALM DOWN. BTW, if you dont have a credit card, dont ask me for the #.

Right, but this is the third post he is complaining that it won't be beta forever. It's called REAL LIFE.
I don't think I am going to subscribe. If Sports Mogul made some kind of marketing pitch or something to convince me to spend my money, then I might.

For me it doesnt really matter it is only $10 a month but all registered players get a discount of 15-35% so it end up like this:
Gold: $9.72 a month
Silver: $7.47 a month
Bronze: $4.21 a month
The cost before:
Gold: $14.95
Silver: $9.95
Bronze: $4.95
I think the cost is fine because it takes away the cheaters

Hi, Tom -
If you really want a marketing pitch, I'm happy to oblige :D
We'd love to have you stick around, since you have been one of our most active participants in the community!
We're offering you a once-in-a-lifetime discount for being a Beta Tester and Charter Member!
This is the only online baseball sim that you can play in the off-season! And it beats the tar out of Fantasy Baseball anyway!
When we move to subscriptions, we should see dramatically fewer cheaters in the leagues, which should make it much more fun.
Would you like more marketing pitch, or have I convinced you to stick around for the real fun?
Thanks,
James "Hard Sell" Grove

Nice job James,
You might want to consider doing this for a living :)
Is Clay, Dee, or James gonna play?? If so, that would be exciting to have them as a owner in our league.

We do play, actually. But I'm afraid that we can't spend as much time on it as many other users do.
We don't want to spend too much time playing at the office, when we are supposed to be developing the game. And we don't want to spend too much time playing at home, since we otherwise never get to see our families.
I've got several teams that I manage to different degrees. Mostly in the early Letter leagues. (League A-F)
I'd be afraid that if I didn't do really well in the competitive league, I'd never hear the end of it!

I hope you play Takaplan. Your input has been valuable. I would never have guessed you were 13. By the way your age doesnt bother me a bit and this comes from a guy who is way older than you!
As an aside is the subscription game going to have a posting area like the beta test posting area where we can continue to make suggestions as well as make notification of problems, glitches, etc.?

They'll also weed out people like me, those who neither have nor want credit cards. If there's any way for us to pay with our checking accounts, I, for one, would be interested.
That being said, the timing of the launch is rather unfortunate for me, considering that in my first season with each of my teams:
+ LA is just entering the playoffs (and, due to the credit-card lockout, I probably won't see whether they win)
+ Arizona is in mid-August and looks to make a playoff run (and, again, I'll probably get cut-off about Sept. 1)
+ KC is just entering the offseason after a rebuilding year (and I'll definitely never see the year I was building them toward)
I wish the game well on the launch, but I'm saddened (and more than a little annoyed) to know I'll be unable to participate.

Although I use credit cards I sympathize with kingjames and his decision not to use credit cards. At the same time I can understand the reluctance of Sports Mogul, Inc. to take checks. Perhaps a compromise could be found. As a Landlord I have found U.S. Postal Money Orders to be just like cash. They are instantly good and they post rapidly to your account. Perhaps Sports Mogul, Inc. could find a way to accomadate players like kingjames by giving them say a six-month pre-payment option using U.S. Postal Money Orders or Western Union.

KJ & Schaefling -
While I can't promise anything, we are giving a lot of thought to some kind of prepaid debit account option. Several people have requested it, and we like to be responsive to our customers.
We'll keep you posted as we investigate this option.
Thanks,
James

I hate breaking the news to you but your not the only online baseball sim.I know of one other baseball sim and it has been around for 2+ years. You might want to rethink your marketing pitch.

You dont want to be in a league with James =D
He still thinks the Red Sox will win the World Series this century!
I did not vote because I will not be able to continue as work is just too much for the amouunt of activity I desire. If you want to get into a solid league I will try to keep the NABL going even though I wont have a team.

A few other suggestions for payment options...
1) Offer some kind of multiple team option without the option to create new leagues. Some of us don't want to start new leagues. Maybe something like 7.95 for 3 teams, no create option.
2) Offer some kind of multi-month discount. So if you pay for 3 months at once you get 15% off or something.
After playing the Beta test. I dont think I will be joining the pay League. It has very little to do with the fact that it is going to a fee, as for the amount of enjoyment I get out of playing it is worth 5 dollars amonth.
The reason is, that although I find it to be fun, I also found out at times it was not fun. In what way do i mean not fun. I felt that I had to play the game at times, in order to keep my team competive ( I like to win), but I would not be able to leave the game for a period of time with out my team going down the drain, but nor do I want to have to start again with a new team.
When I play the CD game of Mongul 2000, I would oftern play it for a week or two on a regular basis, and then put it away for a month or two, but when I came back I could come back to the same spot that I left. Which is not an option for an online game.
So, that is my reason for not joining the pay site, and none of the voting optiions reflect this option. The game Does not suck,
it is the best online game on the net.

I Like the 3 teams.
I have run in 3 beta leagues and I think it suits me. Enough for me to do each day but not too much, and the ability to experience different markets and the challenges of a small budget while being able to spend like a fool on another league.
I will be signing up as soon as I read my mail on how... heh.
If everything goes right I will buy the "Silver" package. One of the teams I will be is the Yankees which will be in my league the MBL. (Mogul Baseball League)

I'm in!!!!! Nice pitch, James! You sold me haha. Anyways, the only thing I was worried about is that it will require you to be 18 in the agreement like some fantasy leagues...but I guess not!
Thanks for the compliemnt, Schaefling!
Great work, everyone!
