There needs to be a way (maybe there is and I simply don't know how to do so) to check out a league you are interested in before joining.

I found a league that had the SF Giants available and jumped at the opportunity to be the GM, but as soon as I fired up the league I found my team to have -982 cash. No one will ever be able to do anything with that team and so I quit and now it counts as a mark against me.

Now, obviously in this beta phase this is no big deal - but there is no way I would pay a monthly fee if I didn't have the opportunity to see what I was paying for.

I couldn't agree with you more. I have done the same as you and also quit the team I had just picked. When the paying begins we must be allowed to view the the team for their rosters and specifically for their finances.

We are also contemplating ways to make a team playable when it is abandoned, such as paying off a team's debt if the player quits the team.

If you do payoff a teams debt, make sure that the person who abandoned the team can't take it back.

before I would consider paying for this there would need to be some limits to some of the ubsurd things I have seen. In the one league I am in the Yankess have a payroll of 1,127 and only a revenue of 300. So chances are he will win this year, but then be gone as his cash will be -800 or so. There needs to be a limit on how much over budget and how in debt a team can go, otherwise you stand to see a great deal of hit and run ownership which won't be fun for anyone.
