I haven't found an exhaustive thread on the commish's powers, just a few vague thoughts scattered over the boards. I thought to myself, "Why would I want to be a commish?" and I haven't really found the answer yet.

I think this is one thing that should be hammered down pretty quickly and definitively: what the commish will have power to do.

Some suggestions:

-the commish is able to select the sim days/times/speed from among the several options offered by BBMO

-the league creator is the first commish, but after each season (or every 2 seasons)other league members can be nominated on to run for the office (the principle here is that a good commish will not be challenged out of office, but a bad one will and would be replaced by a better one)

-give the commish an email form where email addresses are cloaked but a message can be sent to all league members

-allow the commish to pause the sim schedule as necessary for holidays, emergencies, etc.

-the commish may not veto a trade, but may have extra voting power (give him 3 to 5 votes instead of 1)

-the commish can manually remove an inactive team owner from the league (say after inactivity of 10 days this option is available)

-the commish can clean up the forum message board for old posts or obscene posting

Those are a bit off the cuff, and need some refining. Of course, some would take months to develop in this game. The better the game, the better adherence you'll have of subscribers and also in attracting new members. I wish the best for James and Clay.

Anyone else have any new suggestions for the commish role?

I think the commish should also be able to decide the number of teams in the league.

I posted the powers of the commissioner in the last week. You should be able to find it.

Currently the League Commissioners have the following powers:

1.) They can eject users from their league at will.
2.) They can change the amount of cash (points) that teams have in the bank
3.) They can move players from one team to another, or from a team to free agency or vice versa
4.) They can change the terms of a player's contract, adjusting the duration and the salary at will
5.) They can change the names of the teams in their league
6.) They can change the league password to prevent new people from joining the league, or to prevent ejected users from rejoining

When a Commissioner creates a new league, he can:
1.) Choose the league name
2.) Set the league password
3.) Choose the simulation schedule for the league from the current list of options

We plan to add new features to this list in the future. Thanks for your suggestions!

I agree yoshi, I think the commish should be able to decide how many teams are in the league and when and if expansion/expulsion of teams should occur. I realize this creates a scheduling problem, so I'd be willing to wait a little while on it as it is not the most important thing. But wouldnt it be great to start a league with 12 teams and watch it grow to 36 or something like that over 50 seasons??? I would love it. I also think that it should be very hard to unseat a commisioner. Id be pretty upset if the people in a league I was commish of just voted another guy in... basically it is my premonition that if you dont like the way a league is handled then you should just leave, I mean its not like its a job. This is a game, the object is to have fun and if you aren't having fun in the leagues you are in, then quit them and join different ones.
