View Full Version : Mogul Point in the case of a tie

Is there a tie-breaking procedure for determining mogul points in an instance where two teams in a division ended up with the same record. My Los Angeles team and Colorado both ended up with 89 wins. However, Colorado was credited with second place in the Mogul Points and LA was consigned to third place. Was a tiebreaker used or did Colorado get this because of C being first alphabetically?
I realize that splitting the Mogul Points doesn't work due to the difference in points for different tiers. I think that both teams should be creditted with finishing second in their division.

This should be using the same tie-breaker that is used in the big leagues to decide home-field advantage. These rules first check head-to-head record.
So, Colorado should have won the season series. If not, let me know.
Thanks!

I wanna be in your league...89 wins gets you second in the NL West??? I just had 93 wins and finished 4th in the division! I've said it before, Mogul points should take total wins into account, not just divisional place. Only 6 teams had more wins than me, but I got 4th place points. Oh well, that's the way it goes:)

I somewhat disagree. I applaud you for having 93 wins, but if you finished 4th in your division then you have got to do something to win more games. 4th place is not good enough to make the playoffs, not even close. I wouldnt doubt that there are at least a few teams in your league with only 30 wins or so, and so what if you can beat them. I dont think you should be awarded for being in the hard division especially if you couldnt win it. Good luck next season though.

The problem arises in being a smaller market team, tier 4. There are distinct limits on what can be done to improve your team. I don't beleive in the Florida Marlins theory of going to the brink of financial ruin for 1, or maybe 2 good seasons. Based upon the unbalanced scheduling that favors inter-divisional play, I feel that performing well in a tough division should be rewarded, not punished. Maybe a strength of schedule type factor would be the answer...maybe that is too compicated?

I'm glad that there is a tie-breaker and not just alphabetical order. I can't check the season series as it is a fast sim and the next season has started.
I agree with flavorman that Mogul Points should probably take more into consideration that just divisional rank and playoff results. I would like to see a formula that gives a percentage bonus for making a profit.
flavorman - you can be in my league. It is All-Star Mogul. It's a private fast-sim league. The St. Louis franchise is available. They're the defending champs. If you're interested reply or send me an e-mail at jfraser@heabc.bc.ca and I'll contact the Commish.
