View Full Version : The Chicago (N) Problem

I have mentioned this a number of times. I'm going to try one more time to get a response from James or Clay or someone who runs the show here.

Something is wrong with Chicago (N). This is true in nearly every single league. The team does not draw enough fans. Something is set wrong, perhaps the fan base rating. Chicago (N) is a team with a high payroll. They are tier 2. Yet in nearly every league I've seen they have a budget of 250-300, and they seem to never draw more than 25K a game. That's completely unrealistic.

Please, someone comment on this.

I would have to agree completely with this statement. I can't draw a decent fan base with Chicago to save my life.

In the 3 leagues I play in they average 275 revenue, which ranks 27th amongst all 30 teams. DET is also messed, they are ranked as a tier 3 team and they only average 287 revenue, which ranks 26th. I'll post all my findings in another thread here soon.

I'm forwarding this one to Clay for comments.

Thanks for the observation.

DITTO!

I have run the ChN Beta 41 for 4 seasons... average fan base less then 24K per game... last season I won 108 games and the NLDS... I drew 23K per game!... this season I am 19-3 and I dropped to drawing less then 20K per game! OUCH

Thanks for the input... Tim

As a diehard fan from the north side of chicago, nothing is more annoying than trying to play my favorite team (and get them their first WS since 1908!!), only to discover that they are not simming realistically thereby destroying my chances as GM to mold a championship team.

I'd like to know, has anyone ever managed the Cubbies to a championship or seen it done in the thousands of season sims since the beta and launch of mogul online????

I think its a conspiracy ....

More likely it's a bug..... There is too much evidence to the think otherwise.

Any word on yet on this issue... I am now 30-10 and 138-62 over the last two season... and only drawing 20,000 fans per game! Wow... tough fans...

I think they need to separate Chicago into two parts...

North Chicago and South Chicago and make the side of Chicago where Cubs play more enthusiastic than the Whitesox side which is pretty casual.

I would recommend maybe +20% since that gets them 515 instead of about 350 in 2001 with normal broadcast and left alone ticket prices. This will also sway depending on performance... Loyalty starts at a B rating and changes each year. Thats about 9th and remember the Cubs fans are very loyal fans considering the team has been a joke pretty much for years. Also this ranks them around 12th which is good.

One other thing its not a bug or anything like that its the fact that their loyalty is -10%

Kohut,

What do you mean by, "Their loyalty is -10%?"

Teams have permanent ratings which dont change on how loyal the fans seem to be...

Detroit although huge market has never gotten the fans. Therefore they have a permanent -20% for fan loyalty which doesnt change. Even if they win world series the fan loyalty may be an A+ but they still have that -20% difference compared to teams like Cleveland which have sold out their stadium since they opened it. Anyways there arent a tonne of Whitesox fans whiuch pulls down the city rating to a -10% which means they get 10% less fans permanently because the fans of the WHitesox dont really support the team. Anyways how my suggestion is valid is that Cubs fans are super loyal even though the team hasnt been serious competitors in years true? Thats why I would suggest that they impliment a Chicago (South) and Chicago (North) beccause the two teams have very different fan loyalty.

Kohut,

Where did you find this rating? Is it in the CD version? Or can you find it someowhere in MBOL? And if that rating is varaible by team, then Chicago Cubs should definitely have a +20%, I would think.

In the CD version it is -10% which is a permanent rating that effects the team... It means that they will have 10% less support than the average team and receive 10% less ticket sales and 10% less broadcast revenue than they "SHOULD" which is the average. Thats why Cleveland which is like a smaller city gets such large revenues because the fans are like +30% from what they should be...

+20% for the Cubs puts them just above a San Francisco team... and I believe CHicago is a much larger market than San Francisco.

not only is chicago a large market, but cub fans will fill the stadium even if they stink which is more often than not. i would say plus 20 or even 30

+20% can get about 28000 to games if you jack the price up to go for top dollar. It gets them more respectable revenueu also.
