I know this has been talked about in some of the smaller league forums, but this is getting ridiculous.
I have seen the best ERA's in a league that are over 5.00. What is worse is that I have seen some teams finish a season with an ERA over 9.00. One team had Curt Schilling, Omar Daal, Mike Remlinger, and some great bullpen players.
Couple that with the fact that every single batter is on steroids, you have a screwy league. Scores are looking more like football finals rather than baseball games.
I thought something might be done about this, but it has been over 3 seasons (30 games/day) for each one of my leagues.
Just ridiculous!

Hello
What league are you in? If it is Small Market League, they have custom parks. Many of the parks in this league were custom designed to be hitters parks, with short fences and other features that tend to favor hitters.
If this is the case, there is nothing to be done. You build small parks, the ERAs will be smaller.
If you want to join a league with small ERAs, try RBL. We live in the "deadball" ERA. My team had 40 or so shutouts while another team got about 60.
Here is the link to RBL if you are interested.

That's absurd. Clay and the gang want to make this the best baseball game ever. I read the post and said to myself "what the **** is this guy talking about?"
You did not post a link to your league. You did not say if your league was a regular league or a custom league. I'm a programmer and I know how difficult it is to fix a problem when someone gives you vague symptoms. If you want to get a problem fixed, you need to clearly list the symptoms so someone can verify it's a real problem.
Again, if you want to be released from ERA H.E.L.L. you are welcome to visit and join RBL. RBL does not have ERA H.E.L.L., we live in the deadball era (and love it!). Again, feel free to check it out.

im not complaining, im just stating. there are, count 'em, 4 teams in our league with under a 5 era...not a single one in the AL. plus the 14 guys with over 50 homeruns, sosa's 200rbis, and 39 guys with over 40 home runs. brian giles 187 runs? randall simon bats a .367. lowest era's in each league last year were a 4.03, and 3.53...and not a single 20 game winner.
so yes, something is out of whack there. that is not normal.

Not a Problem for Clay/BBMO
You're quite right that things are out of whack in that league. This is SMALL MARKET LEAGUE. SML is a custom league with custom parks. Denver has a guy, Lance Berkman, with 78 homers and 191 RBIs.
The Reason
This is a custom league. In a custom league you are allowed to build your own parks. A lot of guys decided to build parks that are very favorable to hitters. The fences are in close, the foul grounds are smaller than normal. Another important factor is "VISIBILITY". This refers to the background in CF. When the visibility is good the hitter can see the ball better and the averages go up. I suspect a lot of the parks have good or better visibility.
So.... This is something having to do with this particular league, not BBMO generally. In fact, most of the rest of BBMO suffers through the "deadball" era, where averages and ERAs are low. Clay and his team are aware of this problem and are working on it.
Hope this helps. PS. I am the St. Louis Shock and Awe in SML.

Actually, George, any league that restarted after the latest code change is having the same problem that moledude and mystic referred to.
Don't believe it? Go ahead and visit any league that is only 2-3 seasons old. They all are in the high ERA - high offense leagues. Our NPL Returns league is showing the same thing.
But - I'm also in a league that has been around for 18 seasons, and it is more deadball based. I think established leagues that did not restart don't have this problem.

Well....
Maybe the deadball era will come to an end in older leagues also. If they changed just new players and "grandfathered" in old players then we will eventually be living in ERA h.e.l.l. also.
Hmmmm..
Very Interesting!!

I'm not sure that this will help or not. In the first 4-seasons since we have had 3-Closers when the Cy Young.
The AL last season only had 1-Starter with an ERA under 4.00.
Teams have season batting averages over .300 reguarly. Total homeruns are outrageous. I have St Louis and as a team have been averaging over 325-HR per season. I had 11-hitters last season with double digit Home Runs.
I have Owners threathening to leave BBMO, not just my league. I could use a reply to this post.
In reading this thread, I am of the opinion that BBMO is unaware of a problem.
We are not a customized league, and have some of the finest GM's in BBMO associated with our league.
I have developed the Nuclear Lineup theory! Beat your opponents to death.
And this is not exclusive to my league. Custom and Regular alike are a mess!
Is this being addressed or not? I have owners like hoochpit and others ready to bolt BBMO altogether.
Please let me know, I am proud of my league and the things we have accomplished.

i am in fritz's league(detroit) and my first year i had a very weak team, so imagine my surprise when i hit 325+ and won the wildcard, as almost all teams in my division were based on pitching...this needs to be fixed, i love BBMO but mna!

I doubt that SportsMogul is unaware of this issue.
Honestly, I was not aware of how widespread this is. People have been complaining for quite some time about the "deadball era". It seems that SM has overcompensated a bit.
I understand your point. Clay, Dee, Jokerswild, are you reading this? A simple confirmation would be nice!!
Thanks! :D

Check out the General Questions forum. Last that someone posted was that they were aware, but didn't yet know what the cause was. And they're still looking.

Wouldn't be nice if one of them would respond, so that we could tell our owners something.
I have a couple of guys in my League that are ready to bolt BBMO all together. I have already seen some other old timers go....and when they left they left about 6-teams each.
At $9.95/month or more in some cases, that will cause an ouch pretty quick. Have to see a lot of boxed programs at retail to match the dollars.
Heck, all I want to be able to do is answer my guys questions. And with the group of GM's in my league, the word would get out.

There's a response in the General Questions forum. Apparently a fix is going in TODAY.
We'll see...

Well all I can say is that seemed to be a lot of noise and smoke and very little substance.
I haven't noticed any significant difference. And all this talk about tweaking Rookies coming up......Geeeezzzzz.....Don't they realize the most of us reset with the new databases and that the problem is in the sim logic...and not in the Rookies?
