View Full Version : Can the computer ACCEPT trades when the player is not there?

I was away for about a week. Some other human owned teams somehow managed to trade with my team and dump big contracts while in the process, scooping up some of my young rookie stars.
My question is, if the player is away, but still owner of the team, can the computer ACCEPT trades from other human owned players?
I know the computer can sign free agents while a player is away, but these were trades. They were also trades from other players, not other computer teams.
Thanks.

If you're away from the game for a certain number of 'virtual days' (days in the game), the computer does take over, and with the usual computerized wisdom, accept terrible trades.
The problem is, we had many complaints about teams going idle when we were deciding to enable or disable that feature...that players couldn't get players out of teams that had died off...so we left it in.
We're discussing possible solutions for this, and I'll put up a poll about it. Clay's leaning toward not letting the team accept trades if idle, actually.
Options are:
1. Don't allow a computer controlled team to accept trades, period.
2. Allow the user to set a date wehn they'll return, and have it suspend accepting trades for that time (but if they're idle after that, the computer takes over).
3. Keep things the way they are.
Let me know which one you like best. I'll get a formal poll up for this later on.

I think it is a very bad idea to let the computer accept trades. If people want players from a team with an absent owner, all they have to do is boot the owner.
Your other option to set a certain date is a bit better however there are some problems with it. Most people who are absent either have left the league, or are having real life problems and cant attend their team. I would think most people would not even be able to set a certain date unless if they had issues that do not let them attend to their team.
I think the only option is to not allow the computer to make trades.
I am lucky, the team that this happened to is the NY Mets, so I have a big enough payroll to live with the 40+ points of deadweight that the computer picked up for me. However, is I was San Diego or even someone like Toronto, bad trades are killers and can really ruin a lot of hard work.
Thanks for the answer by the way.

A better option, in my opinion, is to boot the owner of the club.
The way I see it, I am the owner and it my responsibility to make the decisions. If I fail to, then I will suffer the consequences and accept that. I hate the idea of paying $10.00 per month, getting into an auto accident and coming home and finding the computer has turned my team into a Frankenstein.
Now THAT would be a nightmare... Coming home after a horrible accident and finding my team now has a payroll of 1200 points with everyone signed to long term contracts. I'd have to fix my team at the same time as I go through rehab....
