I am new here, but enthusiastic about the product (I played some of the older CD versions and just bought the new CD). I have been in fantasy leagues for 6 years or so, but I think this format will suite me better.
But how can I find "the right" league to join? I don't necessarily want league suggestions, but rather what to look for when scanning league lists. I read about cheating and other problems, and every community has people who are .... difficult. How can I find a good league?

1. Join a private league. There are only a handful of players in each public league, and most will probably be closed down.
The best way to find a league is to look in the Rants and Raves forum or in the Leagues forum.
I know you didn't want specific suggestions, but Kohut's NABL league has a few openings...it one of the four founding leagues, along with Bad Ash's, Particleman, and Japhewski's.
Hope this helps...

Look for leagues that seem to have owners who want to make their leagues better. Many of the private leagues ban trading with computer teams, which helps keep the leagues fun. Also, leagues that require you to check in at least every couple of days guarantee that all owners will be active.
Welcome to the Mogul Online community.
(Now for my shameless self promotion: My league, the SPL, is only about half full. We start simming on Tuesday and right now are having discussions about revenue sharing to help even out the league. If interested, e-mail me at jacmasonry@mindspring.com)
If you are looking for a league, there it is.
The most active league, the league is starting on sunday, oct 28th, thre are only 2 teams avaliable, detroit and milwaukee. If you wanna join, plz send me an email to abcboy70@hotmail.com.
There will be ABSOLUTELY no cheating.
MAL is also a BRAND NEW LEAGUE, no teams had been EVER touch before, so you get exactly what you should have when you join!!

There are some definate advantages to being in BBM's league (MAL). They are almost full, which means you probably won't have the hastle of a computer team around. Also you get to see the team from it's first season. I also am commish of a private league although we don't have any openings, it makes for a great time when you know that you don't have to worry about computer A.I.
I am not downgrading the perviously mentioned leagues though. If you have a package with multiple league signups I would suggest taking MAL and then a couple of others like All-Star, Enthusists, or NABL.
Those are all fast-simulation, so if you want slower simulation Cobra gave a couple of other very good options. I am in most of those leagues, so if you want any information on anything feel free to e-mail me at rjblackburn@sofnet.com.
Have fun with the game.

Thanks for all the suggestions, both general and specific: Clearly private leagues are the way to go, and checking out the boards to see which leagues look active is a good thing to do. I found a couple of "homes": let's see how it goes.
