As we all know, the main reason to talk about contraction now is Montreal. Minnesota and Flordia could be getting new stadiums, and the Twins were on a upturn this season. Tampa Bay isn't the best franchise, but if someone would run it correctly, it could be a good mid market team. So that leave us with Montreal. I've come up with some other markets where it could move and be (more) sccessful.

Brooklyn- Why not? It would help to take away some of the Yankees folowing (and $$$) Was usually sold out for low-A league games. 2001 avg attendence: 7,821.

Buffalo- Exixting 21,000 seat stadium that could be expanded to over 40,000. 2001 avg att: 9,592.

Charlotte- Plans are in the works on a new AAA ballpark that could expand if a ML team wanted to play there. 2001 avg att: 5,368.

Indianapolis- Already supports 2 ML teams. Has nice new stadium tht might be able to expand. 2001 avg att: 8,513.

Louisville- Longshot, but has good baseball backround, plus a great new AAA park with a good view. 2001 avg att: 9,275.

Memphis- New stadium that I think could be expanded to a cozy 35,000 seats. 2001 avg att: 12,507.

Omaha- Why not give the home of the College WS a team. Their stadiums big enough, and there's not really anything else to do in the region. 2001 avg att: 5,280.

Sacremento- New stadium, but would probably need a brand new facility for a team. Could be landing spor for the A's. 2001 avg att: 12, 517.

Portland- Has a 20,000 seat stadium that could serve as a temoary home to a team. 2001 avg att: 6,193.

Washington D.C.-Strong effort for MLB to return to the nations capitol. RFK could be used as a temporary standium (Far better than Olimpic Stadium). 2001 avg att: no team since 1972.

I read an article by some economist this summer that said the best way to solve baseball's revenue problems would be to add teams in New York. He thought NYC could absorb 4 to 6 more teams and have enough money to go around to keep all the teams competitive. Although 4 to 6 more teams is probably extreme, the theory makes sense. If Brooklyn, or some other area of New York had a team it would reduce the demand for the Yankees and Mets and would spread the wealth around a little - most notably on the TV revenue side, which would help out all the other teams in the league eventually (since the Yankees couldn't afford a $100 million payroll each year once their revenue streams slow down b/c of the Brooklyn team).

These people from New York? Not only are there really big cities (Los Angeles, Houston) with only one team, there's some pretty big cities with NO teams. Sure, New York had 3 teams 50 years ago, but this was in a smaller league mostly reserved to Eastern teams, where a trip to Chicago was considered a Western trip. I would support Washington for a team, but the fans are a question. They abandoned the Senators 40 years ago, who says they won't now. And they are the Expos, which can't help.
In Omaha, they would be the Nebraska Cornhuskers of baseball, not just because they are in Nebraska, but because they will represent the whole region, not just the state. It'll be like when San Francisco and LA were the only teams West of the Mississippi River besides the very close to the river St. Louis. And they obviously like other sports than college football.
Some of these other cities make perfect sense, but I think DC and Omaha look good. But 3 teams, how about giving a non-baseball city a chance?

Washington DC is the only way to go(almost). DC would automatically bring in tons of money because of the location and stuff.

This happens from tiem to time....:(

It's a poor feature of Vbulletin to bump polls just cuz they get a vote.

I'd like to see some teams moved to New York to cut into the Yankees' revenue - but to do that you'd have to have congress repeal baseball's anti-trust exemption, I think. Otherwise you can only move a team into another team's turf with their permission, if they're in the same league. So, Expos could only move to New York with the permission of the Yankees and the Mets, as I understand it. Fat chance of getting that.

Yeah, a few minutes after I made my first post I thought "Wait, didn't the Expos already move to Washington?"

After careful consideration, I think Washington DC would be a good choice.
