Can someone tell me what they learned affects revenue? You can email me at gregnjj@pacbell.net if you dont want to share your secrets here.

I'm not sure on this but it seems like if you trade away your big money players your limit decrease a bunch as well. I dumped all my high priced players and my payroll is only about 170 pts but i am still going to lose money(this is a small market team, Florida). If I put all three expense categories to 0 my revenue would be about 300. Not very much. Last year my revenue with normal broadcast was about 380. I would think if you have normal broadcast the next year your team would be slightly more popular. Anyone else experience this also?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a lot of answers to this, just more questions. Like, are all teams capable of selling out and being able to compete revenue wise with the other teams? Does signing a high-priced free agent have any effect on attendance? I think it should, since people will come out to see him play.

What about winning? How long does it take for attendance to go up if you start winning games? What are the main factors influencing attendance other than ticket prices?

I'm by no means an expert on any of these subjects, but I do remember a post by Clay or James from awhile back stating that star players do affect your budget (as they help attendance, tv ratings, etc).

Winning will help attendance, but it takes time. You may need a few winning seasons or playoff appearances to see a big difference.

First year I had florida I had pay tv and took them to World series. second year projected revenue dropped so I changed it to normal broadcast (hoping to increase popularity) and took them to playoffs. Now this year projected revenue is even lower. My only guess is that it is because I traded away all my star offensive players and got nice prospects. It's hard to generate revenue with a small market team. I think we should be allowed to build a new stadium. Seems to work in real life with teams like Cleveland etc. Seems to make a small market team into a medium market team at least.

Now my next question is, if star players do increase revenue, what makes a player a revenue increaser. Is it their stats or their salary. I think it should be stats but so far it seems like it's based on salary. Any insight on this?

I don't have much to add on how "star" players help, but I too would like to know more because it sure affects the way you go after FAs.

Have you looked at your ticket prices? Ticket prices and broadcasts both affect your budget. If your ticket prices aren't optimized there's more $ out there you could be generating. I've found that these things fluctuate and it helps somewhat to check them throughout the season.

I think someone (BBM maybe?) said it takes 2 or 3 years for the attendance changes to take effect, but I'm not sure if that's correct (or if I'm remembering that right).

The merits of pay per view versus free tv and blackouts could also use a little more discussion. I've heard that pay per view seems good in the short run for the large market teams but that eventually you lose fan base because people haven't seen your games for so long.

There've been a number of threads about building new stadiums and/or moving to new cities, but I don't think that's high on the priority list for the online game yet.

Yeah, a little more disclosure would be nice, but it may be counter productive at this time. This game seems to be very much a work in progress, and whatever we are told today may change by next week!

That's not a bad thing. It just means that maybe we need to be patient while the bugs are worked out.
