View Full Version : The AI rested my top 3 pitchers BEFORE I had clinched.

Los Angeles Dodgers...

The AI rested my top 3 starters (Kevin Brown, Darren Dreifort and Chan Ho Park) after Sept. 23rd, even though I was not mathematically assured of a playoff spot.

The result? My team went on a 5 game skid, tied for the wild card, then LOST the playoff game.

The pitchers used?
Sept 24 - Andy Ashby
Sept 25 - Carlos Perez
Sept 26 - Andy Ashby
Sept 27 - Day Off

Now begins a three game series vs AZ - the team still in contention. They sweep me, BTW.
Sept 28 - Andy Ashby
Sept 29 - Carlos Perez
Sept 30 - Andy Ashby is slated to pitch, but I saw this and inserted Kevin Brown. For naught, as it turns out, as AZ wins 6-3 to force a playoff.

Oct 1 - I insert Darren Dreifort, but AZ wins 3-1.

Through all this, the computer has LA bolded - indicating that it had locked in a playoff spot.

I reported a very similar problem myself and James Grove has indicated they are working on it.

The fact that your opponent was already bolded does worry me though as it indicates the possibility the computer may have already pre-determined a winner. Hopefully Clay will check this out too.

In the meantime I recommend checking your starting pitchers out if possible a week before the playoffs begin and forcing your rotation to go the way you want it.

If you cant dothis remember that your number four and five pitchers will be overused if you reach the playoffs and probably should not be used at all during the first round of the playoffs.

Anyway I hope this info helps.:)

I can assure you that there is no "pre-determination" of a winner. Everything uses the random number generator. It does appear that the program miscalculated some magic numbers though, and it the process executed very bad strategy thinking a team had clinched when it hadn't.

If you have the CD-ROM version, check out unofficial patch 4.24 posted on these boards and tell me if you get similar errors. I'm pretty sure I have improved the pitcher use AI, and will be implementing it online once I've tested it some more.

Thanks!
