View Full Version : Thoughts on the FA process?

I think I remember some posts by Clay or James recently on tweaks made to the free agent process. I'm still in a fairly empty beta league that is currently in the offseason. It looks like the computer's ability in handling free agency is much improved. Star players are not going for 1 pt per year (Vlad Guerrero looks like he'll go for 115 to 120 pts per year) anymore, so although this will cost me more $, it's much more realistic.

I have noticed that my FA bids appear to get cleared out in that I can't see my "max" bid when I'm the high bidder for a player, but the computer is at least retaining that I'm the current high bidder when it should be. Is the computer retaining my max bid somewhere even though I can't see it? I hope the computer isn't forgetting that I'm willing to pay a little more for some players (based on what I entered) and not just one point more than the previous maximum bid.

I'm not actually certain what the computer thinks is the max bid in that situation. I've been re-entering my max bid just to be sure.

But we have already got that on our bug list, and hope to get it resolved. (It shouldn't be too hard...)

Thanks,
James

Let's say a guy will sign for 10 points a year. Your current bid is 5 pts, with a max of 15.

On April 1, will it automatically bump up your bid to 10 so you sign him, or will he remain a free agent, thinking that you were only offering 5 pts?

Thanks James. I went back and re-entered my max bids and it looks like it took.

On an interesting note, one of the computer teams in my league has a bid in for Pedro Martinez for 50-some points per year. Pedro however, is injured and will miss all of the upcoming season. That's a pretty hefty price to pay for a player who will be sitting out the upcoming season.

I'm not sure what will happen in the situation Godard laid out. But right now I'm the high bidder for a player where we aren't at his asking price yet, but my max bid is in that territory. We'll see what happens.
