View Full Version : Do You Like Leagues With Commissioners?

We're trying to figure out how many "Public" leagues we need to build to meet demand, and what league type is most suitable for newer players. Along those lines, do you prefer playing in a league with a Commissioner, or in a Public League without a Commissioner?

Clay:
I was curious why you didn't have an option for a public league with a commissioner. Possibly that position could be held on a rotating basis by all teams (human controlled of course).
In reading some of the postings about the private leagues (which I haven't joined yet or created) it seems it would be wise for those leagues to continue to have a commissioner who would be the person who created the league in the first place as it now stands. Hopefully that person runs an honest league.

Beta 72
Beta 75
PS I really like the shaded number info for my starting rotation on how many days rest they need. Great Idea!

You can have a public league with a commissioner.
All the commish has to do is set the league with no password, and anyone can join. That's what I did in EML, and the league filled up very quickly.

I guess this would depend on the rules of the league. Some leagues prevent trades with the Computer. Those leagues need a commissioner to manipulate rosters in case of violation. Also, some owners run a team into the ground and quit, so you want a commissioner to make that team more competitive to attract new ownership.

How do I change the settings on a public league I am already in? How do I become commissioner in a Beta League?

Kingola,
To run your own public league, you would need to start your own league. To do this, you must have either a Silver or Gold subscription.
To create a league, go to My Account. Then under Options, click Create A League. When you make your league, just leave the password field blank and it will be a public league.
At this point, I don't think you can become the commish of an existing Beta league. Likewise, you cannot edit the league settings of a public league that you are not the commissioner of.
Hope this helps.

You cant run a beta league kingola. Thats a public league with no commisioner.

I think having un-commissionered (is that a word?) public leagues is fine, but there should be a caveat that allows owners to quit the league (without it effecting their Quit Rating) should the league dip below a certain number of owners (5, 10, 15?)
Any league with fewer than 5 owners should be removed from the game unless there is compelling reason for continuing (like FS 37, where Nello and I have developed a nice WS rivalry) - why waste the server space?

Thanks for the info, kohut I kind of came to that conclusion myself when I realized that takaplan and I weren't on the same page in regards to the questions and answers although his info was also informative.
Also in regards to the comments by: nysteinbrenner
"but there should be a caveat that allows owners to quit the league (without it effecting their Quit Rating) should the league dip below a certain number of owners (5, 10, 15?)"
This sounds like a good idea but even though I am in 2 beta leagues with only computer teams it is still a challenge to beat them and be the best and I am in year 2004 already and like the teams I have.
About this Nello guy, not a name you hear everyday I used to know a Nello in Toronto, Ontario. Probably not the same guy though.

I figured most people would interpret public as 'no commissioner' but I see many of you were paying closer attention.
:)
You're right, you could have a "public" (no password) league with a commish. You could even make a password league (e.g. for yoru friends) but use the default rules and have no commish. A good choice for folks having trouble finding commissioners they like, but not yet an official option.

If a commisioner decides he doens't want to play anymore does could he ruin the league? or would his commish position be rotated/deleted when he dropped. It sure would be a sad thing if the commish could ruin it for the rest of the league...just because he isn't playing

a commissioned league without a password is still a private league. Regardless of whether you put a password on or not, it's still slated as a private league. The private just means it's run by a commissioner.

The commissioner can transfer the office to another person in the league if he's leaving etc.. that's how i ended up being the commisioner in PBL actually
