I have a question as to what scouting actually affects. Is it just the scouts opinion at the bottom, or does scouting actually affect the letter ratings. I mean our the ratings for Contact accurate with a low scout rating for example.

Scouting mainly effects the letter grades. Personally, I never read the brief summary of the player because they are generic and usually always are way off with bad scouting.

The letter grades are off as much as 1 or 2 grades if you have horrible scouting, and they change very frequently.

The worse your scouting is the more inaccurate the little blurbs get. If you have good scouting the blurbs are helpful. If you don't they're no help at all.

From what I understand (which may not be a heck of a lot) scouting affects both what letter grades you see and the blurbs at the bottom.

The letter grades/blurbs for rookies tend to *project* how he's going to be. If he's got an A rating for hitting and right now in AAA he's batting .268, it's a sure bet he's not ready for the bigs yet. Of course, that's if you have scouting you can rely on. If your scouting is off, he could actually be a B- hitter and IS ready for the bigs because he's hitting at his potential.

One way to look at is the ratings tell you what he's good at and the blurbs tell you how he's going to be. If it says Superstar or Hall of Famer (and you have great scouting) you can be sure he'll put up great numbers even if he seems less than optimal.

In addition, another thing to note is that the blurbs for pitchers weighs too heavily (I think) their overall defense. You might see a guy with Bs & As for his Arm, Rng, etc at pitcher whose blurb says Franchise/Package in a deal (or whatever it is - LOL) who consistently puts up a 4 or 5 ERA. While not discounting the ability of a good pitcher to put the ball over the plate instead of behind it (the dreaded passed ball) I believe it's overall effect is less than what the game thinks. Perhaps something to look at for a future revision.
