View Full Version : Updated Roster

I created a roster which imports all the 2003 rookies from the Lahman database, and made a few other changes (Luis Gonzalez, Ben Molina, some others were on the wrong teams), and imported a couple missing veterans (Jon Leiber) ... I was going to upload this file for everyone else but when I try to save as a .dat file it still saves as a .mog. Is this just a glitch in the game or am I missing something ... Thanks
... Also I'm in the process of fixing all contracts (found a good website for this), adding 2004 rookies (the top 100 'names you need to know', from Sports Weekly) and top prospects for all teams (Still trying to find the best site for this, might just use SW's team lists)

A mog file is fine, we can all still use that! I ran into that problem and never did worry about getting around it since it still works.
Dunno if someone else can advise on how to get about that!

You can just go to espn.com, go to statistics, and sort by rookie. Just make sure the player isn't already in the database, because some guys who are rookies have played parts of other seasons before.
And for the prospects, if you're really dedicated to this and have the time, i'd suggest going to a bookstore and either buying one of those books (there was a really good baseball weekly one that listed the top 30 for each team, but I don't remember the exact name) or just jotting a few down at a time.

The contracts site is DugoutDollars (sorry if you're not supposed to put links on this site but its www.dugoutdollars.blogspot.com )
I almost did buy the 2004 Baseball Prospectus at Barnes and Noble, and also looked at the Baseball America Handbook, but passed ... didn't wanna spend 20 bucks on em when you can find most stuff online.
Also when I copy a player and then do 'Clear Year-by-Year', when i start a season using the roster, it doesnt track year-by-year stats for the new player. This happened occasionally in '03, too ... Anybody know a way around it?

Miguel Cabrera was imported, too ... I went to espn.com and found a list of all players who made their debut in 2004 and added them to the list of players to be imported into the 2004 default roster, so it know imports guys like Matsui, Willis, Webb, Cabrera, and others.
I also have had it import some older players who have expressed interest in making a comeback to the free agent pool (Henderson, Canseco, etc.) to replace the fake players.

What do you mean by 'save it as a universe for your name' ?
sfbennett1
05-29-2004, 09:11 PM
- added all players who made their debut in 2003
- moved luis gonzalez from COL to ARI
- moved damian moss from ATL to TBD
- added jon lieber (2002) to NYY
- deleted kaz sasaki (# 836)
- moved ben molina from TOR to ANA
- moved jose cruz from TOR to TBD
- moved raul mondesi from NYY to PIT
- deleted drew henson (# 623)
- moved aaron boone from CIN to FREEAGENT
- moved alex gonzalez from FLA to CHC
- moved jeremy giambi from BOS to LAD
- added rickey henderson to FREEAGENT
- added jose canseco to FREEAGENT
- added erik bedard (2002) to BAL
here is just a quick update which fixes a few oversights and imports 50-100 players who made their debut in 2003 but whom the default roster doesn't load for some reason ,,, I'm in the process of fixing ages/contracts, correcting opening day rosters, adding prospects and 2004 rookies, and some additional free agents, after that I may edit some ratings but I prefer to leave the default ratings.

Yeah I'm workin on the rookies/contracts now but I'm a tad of a perfectionist so I'm tryin to find a good list to work off of ... This was just a quick fix cause I wanted to play right away but didn't like having Gonzo in Colorado and both Alex Gonzalez's in Florida ... just to fix the little stuff like that, plus having rookies like Willis, Webb, Matsui, Berroa ... I'll post a new one soon.

Download the .mog file (the link is in a previous post) and put it in your Baseball Mogul 2k5 directory, then click "Resume Game" and select "Update (sfbennett1)" ... Then, since I couldn't get it saved as a .dat file, you will have to go into Commissioner mode and change whatever team you want to be user controlled.
I realize Mondesi is an Angel but right now I'm working on Opening Day rosters ... I will probably keep them as they were on opening day since when you start a new game it doesn't start in midseason ... And sorry, I'm not sure if these can be used on 2k4.
Yeah I got the right Luis Gonzalez, I think when the rosters were originally created, whoever was doing it put 'gonzalu01' into the database for the Colorado 2B, and the game loaded the Arizona LF.
sfbennett1
05-30-2004, 10:15 PM
here is the 2004Rosters.csv file which I added all players who made their debut in 2003 onto ... I also corrected the major roster flaws as I said earlier, and added Jon Lieber.
Download this to your Baseball 2005/Input folder and replace the old one ... I'm currently changing this file to have the correct Opening Day 40-man rosters and then I'm going to add the Baseball American top 100 prospects for 2004.
(Correction ... this is the zip file, download this then unzip the .csv file to the Baseball 2005/Input folder)

Can you add Kaz Matsui to the Mets? Also, Ron Coomer, Marcus Thames, and possibly others are no longer on the Yanks, can you fix that? Thanks for doing the updates man, we all really appreciate it.
sfbennett1
06-02-2004, 01:45 AM
Yeah, but the Luis Gonzalez on Colorado is not in the database because prior to this year he had no ML experience ...
I'm working on an update which should be out late tonight (or early, depending on how you look at it) which will have opening day 40 man rosters, unfortunately since i'm editing the .csv file only, it will just be the players with experience, but will still be the most accurate one that we have to use so far ... After I finish this I will begin to add all 2004 rookies, then Baseball America's top 100.
PS ... Sorry it's taking so long for this, but I am completely re-writing the csv file so teams/players are in alphabetical order and no excess players are on there, it'll just make it easier for me to edit.
sfbennett1
06-02-2004, 06:22 AM
Well I finished my new .csv file with exact opening day rosters but turns out some teams didnt have enough players on their opening day roster with ML experience, so they are filled with randomly created players, which I don't like, so I am trying to think of what else to do, possibly adding players who had experience and were on AAA rosters on opening day ... I'll post what I decide soon.

Here is a new 2004Rosters.csv file .. it has been explained before how to use it ... I tried saving as a .dat but even with 7.0.1 it still messes up the year by year stats ... Anyway I completely redid this roster set so every team has its 40 man roster (but since it's the .csv it only has players with MLB experience), plus all player who were on the teams minor league rosters who had ML experience last year. I will soon release a file which will have correct salarys/contract lengths for this file.

Here is a .mog file for anyone who doesn't want to replace the default .csv file ... I added Matsui, Mauer, and Upton just cause I was bored and I figured they'd be the most important in '04, I'll add other players after I perfect the .csv file.
(Simulated Season)
Matsui ... .280 - 14 - 66 .358 .453
Mauer ... (Minors) .327 - 10 - 48 .396 .458
Upton ... (Minors) .281 - 10 - 77 .348 .457
(Mauer is stuck behind LeCroy)

Thanks a load for the new rosters, nice to see my Yanks, are pretty much perfect.
I just wanted to point out I believe Marcus Thames is on Texas(or at least was last year) and Im not sure if Ron Coomer is still with the team.
I appreciate your work, thanks.

Thames was with the Rangers last year, but he started this year in the Tigers organization (AAA Toledo) ... Coomer is a free agent, last played with the Dodgers.
Im not sure what you mean by the vitals question ... But I'm working on a '2004Data.csv' file that you can input with these rosters that will load salary/contract length/age/injury days which will have all the correct data as of opening day.

I have two files that are set up to be imported. One for All-Star Appearences and one for Gold Gloves. I need to update it for the players that you added but if your interested I could e-mail them to you. I really like your rosters by the way, especially since you don't tamper with the default ratings. ;) Keep up the good work.
sfbennett1
06-05-2004, 05:26 PM
Yeah I don't know why outputting doesnt' work, I guess it needs to be fixed with a patch because no matter what database you use it will not output any players in the the output file.
Thanks DrDoom, but you don't have to e-mail the file, I'm sure I can find the stats online easily enough, but thanks for the idea, I'll add all those stats to the data sheet I'm making.

The Mets don't have Kaz Matsui.
sfbennett1
06-06-2004, 02:53 PM
As I said, all I have edited is the .csv file, since Kaz Matsui had no ML experience prior to the start of the season, he cannot be imported from the database ... Once I am done tinkering with the .csv, I will add the top 100 prospects from BA and any rookies on the 40-man rosters.
sfbennett1
06-07-2004, 02:16 AM
This file has all the hitters who were on Baseball America's top 100 prospects list, I just got bored and wanted to try making some players...the ratings arent perfect, it takes most players too long to get to the pros, and some get too good, so I'm still tinkering, but just incase anyone wanted something to hold them over.
DrDoom
06-07-2004, 02:34 PM
Your rosters are awsome. I do have one question though. After you add the 100 top prospects from BA, are you going to add any more minor leaguers? For instance, players from AAA opening day rosters. The reason I ask is that, in your most recent universe, you said you added all of the batting prospects from BA and some teams still have very very few batters in their AAA (Houston has none). I wouldn't expect you to fill in every available slot of every team but it would be cool to have a minimum of 10 AAA Batters and 10 AAA pitchers on every team. Just a thought though. :)
sfbennett1
06-07-2004, 03:49 PM
Yeah I really just wanted to tinker with creating players because as you can see its hard to make them arrive in the show at the right time and develop right ... But I think ive got it better, I recently had Joe Mauer start of with 300 at bats and hit around .310, then progress up to around 450-500 for the next 10 years hitting around .320-.350 with 20 homers ... So yeah i'll add all players on the 40-man and the remaining players on BA's list soon.

You can use BBM2k3 rosters in BBM2k5 but you can't use BBM2k5 rosters in BBM2k3.
sfbennett1
06-07-2004, 11:08 PM
Yes it is currently a 6 year rule, but in Mogul alot of players like Dontrelle Willis, Jose Reyes, etc. are given 1 year deals, so I went ahead and did that for the guys I made, when I make the 2004data.csv file though I may make it where players with no experience get 3 years, and those with 1 year get 2, something like that. If you go 6 year it's too unrealistic because guys earn 300,000 after 5 years when in real life they can often make around 5,000,000.

the reason why is because 2k5 added the minor league and the Transaction log, with this, previous versions of Mogul can not read the new version.

I got mine from mlb.com. They are not all free agents but it was a good start. click on players then click go but don't enter a last name. it will show all of the players and their team. i used players with a "-" as free agents...
sfbennett1
06-08-2004, 08:01 PM
I was going to use that too, but players such as Damian Moss, who was with Tampa but in the minor leagues at the time, were listed as '-' ... So in my roster I had him on Tampa Bay rather than as a Free Agent.

I'm a dba so I downloaded the actual lahman database and imported my file in there. I then wrote a query to cross check the files so I didn't have duplicates and guys who were listed as free agents and on a team went to the team. the only problem with mine is graham lloyd is a 100 100 free agent and wins cy young and mvp everytime you start a new game.

Also, how are the rosters coming along?
sfbennett1
06-10-2004, 12:44 AM
Coming along OK ... I'm currently going through, adding any player who was in the teams organization as of opening day to the .csv file, then once I'm done I'm adding all of that teams players and data onto a 2004Data.csv file (which has correct Salary, Contract Length, Age, Injured Days on it) ... I am also experimenting to see the best way to do contract lengths ... right now I think the best way is this way:
- all players in minors but not on 40-man roster are 300,000 for 1 year
- all players ON 40-man roster making league minimum are signed for 3 years
- all players on 40-man roster who have recieved a raise for time on the big league roster (usually around 350,000) are signed for 2 years
- all Baseball America top 100 prospects are 300,000 for 3 years.
If all players are assigned their correct current contracts then all young players have 1 year deals and usually go unsigned at the end of the year and the rosters are filled with fake players ... By giving players with 1 year experience 2 more years with the team, and new players 3 years, the teams are able to keep their core players instead of signing huge amounts of cheap free agents.
sfbennett1
06-10-2004, 04:24 AM
One thing that would be helpful is if everyone would post the players on 'their teams' minor league clubs who have had ML experience before, and thus would be in the Lehman database ... I think I'm getting most of them but I just want to make sure I don't forget any before I create players because if I find someone I overlooked AFTER I add the rookies then I'll have to start over ... thanks
The rosters will include:
- all players on the opening day 40-man rosters
- all players on the teams minor league opening day rosters who are in the Lahman database.
- Baseball America's top 100 prospects
- corrected salary, contract lengths, age, injured days
then I'll probably get bored and add the 2004 first round picks

You mentioned people providing info on their favorite team to help you with your database. I found a few good resources for minorleague stats, projected player performance, and contracts, but is there a way for me to complete only one whole team with everything done that you could add to your database. I'm a realism superfreak, not a homer so my stat predictions are pretty much on the ball, especially keeping in mind we have 2 months of the season under our belt. If there's a way to add just one team I'll do that(rookies, created players, etc). Let me know what I can do to help.

Here's some Blue Jay info based on how the 7.02 roster update has the team:
*Players in database with mlb exp. that are on team or minors but are located on other teams in database:
Bobby Estalella(COL) Marvin Benard(SF) Chad Hermansen(LA) Bruce Chen(HOU)
*Rookies or minorleaguers that are already in the 7.02 update and don't have to be created because they had some mlb exp. last year:
Kevin Cash, Howie Clark, Brian Bowles, Vinnie Chulk, Jason Kershner, Valerio de los Santos
*Players on roster that shouldn't be:
Tom Wilson(OAK), John Wasdin, Scott Service, Doug Creek, Jeff Tam, Dan Reichert, Doug Linton, Juan Acevedo, Mike Bordick(retired?)
*players that need to be created (on 40-man roster):
Pitchers-Jason Arnold, Jason Fraser, Dustin McGowan, Micheal Nakamura, Francisco Rosario
hitters-Guillermo Quiroz, Simon Pond, Jorge Sequea, John-Ford Griffin, Alexis Rios.
*Also, Bob File isn't in the database but he was in previous years.

sorry - i recently lost my csv file so i had to start from scratch ... i've been testing creating prospects and added the top 50 hitters from BA to the new 7.0.3 roster (with correct salaries and all) and tried to get them to all perform at a realistic level over 10 years, just cause i think thats the hardest part, not having some guys hit .360 with 50 homers every year but also having them get some time in the majors in 04, more in 05, and take over starting in 06 or whatever but yeah im still working on it ... i also like clays new rosters alot except for the little oversights like ismael valdes still on the rangers - little stuff like that - but i lik ethe contracts, especially the younger guys havin 6 years cause teams like the rangers build around blalock, young, nix, laird, and teixiera instead of signing 6 new free agents at the end of the year ... i think what i'll do is go through the new roster, add lankford and leiber, switch everyone to the right teams (shouldnt take long, most are right) and then add the BA top 100 and guys on the 40-man ... i dunno if i'll mess with the contracts or not now. but sorry its takin so long, i was halfway done with a new 2004rosters file with correct everything when it got deleted haha.

David Cone retired. Jason Phillips is no longer with the Mets. Graeme Lloyd is no longer with the Mets. Jason Middlebrook is no longer with the Mets. Mike Bascik is no longer.
What kind of update is this?

Sfbennett said that he didn't move players around in this update.

If you look at this link, you will find Jason Phillips with the Mets still: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/nym/roster
Also, XtremeSlim- have you ever tried to do a thorough update like some of these guys are? If you don't like his update, use someone elses, or spend 40-50 hours updating your own. Good grief!

Well sfbennett1 isnt employed by Sports Mogul....his updated roster is better than the one that comes with the game.

That's Jason Phillips the 1B. The one I am talking bout is Jason Phillips the pitcher. Two completely different guys. So next time you try to shut someone up make sure you know what you are talking bout.
Also, I wasn't complaining bout the update. I was giving suggestions and some information that he might want to know. And I meant in what kind of update is this exactly what the questions asks. Not rudely what kind of update is this.

BS. You're basically "cyber-yelling" at sfbennett..."what kind of update is this?" If you read back in the forums, you would read that that update did not have roster changes!

I understand now that you said "What kind of update is this?" I took it as a rude comment because the context you said it, it was rude.

It's ok -- if I downloading something called 'update' and nothing really noticable was changed i'd start asking questions, too, but if you want one where the players were switched to their correct opening day teams you can look earlier in this thread and i posted one, but like I said the last one is the 7.0.3 rosters with Baseball America's top hitting prospects added (about 50 guys), and I only uploaded it for anyone who wanted to mess around with it without having to add all the players themselves ... right now I'm adding all players on the OD 40-man rosters to the master, batting, fielding, pitching csv files, then making 4 projection spreadsheets to import so that i can make changes to the 2004rosters.csv file without having to start all over in creating prospects ... sorry its takin so long but each time i add a player i have to add him to about 8 different things.

XtremeSlim-
I owe you an apology, as I took your posting to be attacking and not as one looking for clarification and giving of info for future updates.
Next time I will look (ask for clarification) before I leap (go off on someone).
Thanks and happy simming. Hold no grudge please.

I really don't want to get in a big argument, but that post was posted a day before you made those comments.
