Alright I started in 1958 and my good players dissapeered after the season and i know they had more years on their contract. When I searched for them, like Brooks Robinson, he was gone... what happened to him. Stars like mickey mantle are gone too. What happened? I even used the find option and its like they have fallen off the face of the earth.
thanks, ryan

they could have retired??
go to league on the top part of the screen, then click on that, go to options,
now you are in the dialog box called "league options"
click on the view button next to retirements,
if you dont see the name there then it could be a bug???!!!

well i quit that game, so they must have retired. I started a new one and that bug didnt show up. I thought it was weird that a 19 and 20 year old would retire though.

mostly because they got release and because they suck!

I played the 2004 season with the Cubs and after the season was over and I went through the draft and finished the off-season I checked my lineup and ALL my top players were gone....I checked out the "Find Players" option and the players had simply disappeared from the game.....For example....Sosa...Lee...Ramirez...Grudzielanek....Prior....Zambrano...Clement... .etc....everyone was simply gone!....This has to be some kind of bug which will eventually be fixed (I hope!)....Also noticed alot of players are missing from the 2004rosters file in the input folder....Clay any chance of putting out an updated file for that?........Thanks....Scorey
I think I have figured out why the players are disappearing.....My teams were finishing in debt when I first started playing and I believe the computer was removing my high salaried players because of this....I started a new game and traded away alot of salary so that I would make a profit and after the season was over and I was in the black none of my players disappeared.....wala!.....Hopefully Clay can address this issue in the first official patch

Hello,
There appears to be a glitch with the new version.
After sim-ing through the first season with the Red Sox (and winning it all, natch), I came to the off-season with no cash, which meant I could not resign about six players (two pitchers and the rest, fielders).
So I progressed to the offseason and got the pop-up windows saying that I could not resign Daubach, Wakefield, etc.
However, after that finished and I went to re-sort my Pitchers, ALL of them were gone and replaced with minor league players. Pedro, Kim, Timlin, Foulke, everyone was gone (who were in the Majors the previous year).
I tried to run the save file again (saved it after the Sox won), but the error occurred again.
Then, I started a new season and simmed it all the way through (Sox won again), but this time some pitchers were there. However, all of my fielders / lineup were gone.
I have attached the first Save File. I will attach the other in this thread.

This is the second time I simmed.

Apparently my attempt to post the first Save File didn't work.
Here it is.

For the record,
I emailed all this to the support account as well:

Yeah...I had this happen with the Expos....I started in 2003...and after 2003 I was 30 million in the hole.....I couldn't resign anyone...and ALL my other stars were released by the game without me having a say.....THEN....the computer signed Kerry Wood (17 mill/season) and David Eckstein (12 mill/season) to my team while I simmed up to the draft!!! Everything seems to work fine if you finish with cash....but I think this does need to be addressed in a patch....if it can be. :)

I just don't understand why they disappear competely from the game though

This happened for me also. I've lost all of my players. The worst thing is they plainly disappear. Cannot be find anywhere in the league. They might just be plainly transformed into some shitty players.. hoho
This bug can be temporily solved by mannually change ur cash to a positive value. Be honest and do not sign any of ur free agents, and then change ur cash back to the previous negative number.

Cool tip,
I tried it and it works. It's a funky workaround, but once I was in the Black, everything seemed to work fine.
Thanks - me

actually, when you go into debt, it dumps your whole lineup, but not pitching staff. It dumped my hot rookies, mid stars, and stars, regardless of their salary/contract

It dumped all my stars except 3 and signed really crappy old (37-40) free agents to play the stars spots. It ditches your highest paid players then gets lowered paid ones.

Ive noticed that when my team has a negative budget players have been disapearing without going into the free agency pool. No retirement messages or hall of fame inductions either (you think a player with 900 hr's would get in)
I went from a team that won 105 games to a team that won 15 games. my pitching staff stayed though. Kerry Wood wound up 1-25. hehe
Is that still happening?! Have you tried the latest patch?
As far as HOF inductions are concerned, there is a .ini file you can tweak to make it easier to get in. The higher the numbers the easier.

I noticed this even with the 7.03 patch and a brand new start with my own universe file... granted some would have retired and gone to the HOF but **** a lot just up and dissapeared completely... was just very very wierd... I think it might have something to do again with the fact that those not drafted get dumped into the FA at the end of the draft and since it only allows so many, a lot get tossed.... still don't like that by the by... let it be an open list and kill them at the end of the season if they are rated low and don't sign!!
Ahhh well! What can we do?

An upwards adjustment the league revenue factor should help prevent teams from going into debt, thus preventing the mass dumping of players' contracts.

I'm assuming you DO get a message that says something like "You can't renew contracts while in debt..." and then when you go look for him on the Free Agent list, he's not there?

Clay sometimes that does happen, but even when you make money if you don't renew and a lot of teams let players go they just up and dissapear. I think it may be due to the number of players the game will list in the FA... add in the undrafted players getting dumped in there is even less room so it just drops players out of the game completely. They don't retire or go to the HOF they just downright dissapear completely!

There was no message or anything. i just went to the offseason and most of my starting line-up was gone, same deal in that they didn't go anywhere <not to FA list or other teams>. My pitching staff also stayed intact.
I don't buy the debt explanation, because my A's squad was in debt for the last 4 years and this just happened.

while I may think a plus 6 Staff ERA deserves execution, i would like so say in when and where.
BTW i notice this only seems to happen when i have players whose contracts are up at the end of the season that i have to let go because i am in debt. it seems to take a good portion of whoever is around with them and replace them with 40 year old rookies. (i.e. if i have to let go a pitcher it takes some pitchers, if i have to let go a hitter it takes some hitters)

Yup. I just finished my 2nd season with Boston and after it, because I was over budget, Dewon Brazelton was released. He is nowhere on any team's roster now OR on the FA list. He up and vanished like a fart in the wind...not that I'd want him back because he sucks but he should still be in the game data SOMEWHERE!
