I just have a question about the minor league draft. Why isnt it an amateur draft? I have noticed that all the best players in this minor league draft ar like 28 years old. I know that only AAA is on here, but couldnt there still be a true amateur draft rather then the minor league draft where the best players are nearing 30 and not even at thei peak? There are 18-22 year olds, but they have been terrible for me. All the top picks have been no younger then 26...

Thanks,
koolkerns

I guess if u want a real amateur draft, you need a whole farm system, not like now only AAA, that's too much a change and I don't know baseball mogul designers ever wanna do that.

I am going to have to disagree on this, In 2 seasons I have been able to pick up in the top 20 some good pitchers and batter all under the age of 24.

Same here, I havent seen a problem with most good players being near 30, most are between 18-24.

Same with me. I have 2 complaints with the draft, however. First, the talent is too good and often is in the majors in their rookie year, but I guess they can't change that because of only having AAA. My second complaint is that the top players are mostly only pitchers. It seems to me like in about 10 or 15 years, if not less, the league will be absolutely DOMINATED by pitching because most of the top people being drafted are pitchers.

I've found the draft to be very randomized...meaning one year may be very stocked with pitchers and very few high ranked position players....and other years many position players are the high rankers.......I've also noticed many 24,25 and 26 year olds in the draft.....which I don't really like since I don't want to build a team around someone that old.....I prefer to draft 18,19 and 20 year olds so they can develop into great players to step in when I release my stars to keep my finances under control...BUT...the one good thing about the 24,25 and 26 year olds in the draft is that they can step right into the major's lineup and produce very well......Overall I really like the draft and how random each year has been.

This can be adjusted by you.

Open the rookies.ini file in notepad. Bring the numbers down to a reasonable level. I've been using 80-85 with reasonable results. While some can start right away, the rest will need 1-3 years in AAA.

Brent,

Thanks for pointing out the rookies.ini file.

As for the draft, in real baseball, there is an amateur draft (of high school and college players) every June that lasts for 50 rounds. This is a lot of players, and a more cumbersome feature than we wanted to include in Baseball Mogul 2005.

Therefore, we have streamlined the “Amateur Draft” to a 6-round “Minor League Draft” where you pick from the best players at the AA level. Some of the top picks are ready for the majors – most need to spend some time in AAA before having a shot at playing in the show.

As in real life, AA has some 26-year-olds that might pan out, but it's mostly populated with younger players who are on a steady path the majors.

It seems in the minor league draft only players from AA are drafted. Actually we can make it some from AA, some from A or even R, and some from AAA!! Yes, the minor league draft should not be that clear-cut. There might be some AAA players not in major league contract and eligible for draft, which will make the game closer to reality.
