Attached is a new 2004Rosters.csv file.
This should fix the missing rookies (those who had playing time in 2003, but not before, such as Miguel Cabrera, Bobby Crosby, and Jody Gerut).
In some cases (e.g. Gerut and Cabrera) I think the ratings that Mogul gives them are pretty accurate. In other cases (e.g. Crosby) -- it still needs some tweaking.
To update your rosters, download this file, unzip it, and copy it over 'Input\2004Rosters.csv' (with the default installation, this will be C:\Program Files\Sports Mogul\Baseball 2005\Input\2004Rosters.csv).

We have some salary data -- attached (but don't have contract length data).
You can update salaries in a new game by using Tools->Import Stats with this file (set the first stat to 'Salary' and leave the rest as 'No Stat').

Here's a website with accurate contract information for every player and every team.

Clay, is there a way to import contract terms as well using a text file such as that?
Also, can we do the same type of thing with years of service? I notice that some players have accumulated stats, but no years of service. Major League teams control the rights to a player's contract for six years (if acquired via draft, signed from overseas, or posting from Japan - generally speaking). The clock on that six years typically starts once the player makes his major league debut (the reason ARod became a FA a year earlier than the M's believed he was supposed to). Wasn't sure there was a reason the rosters were setup this way that I might be missing.
goyanks225, that website is accurate, except in situations mentioned above. A player, such as Miguel Cabrera, shows a one year contract for $320K, however he doesn't even become arbitration-eligible until after the 2005 season. Until then, the club can renew his contract at whatever rate they wish. The player becomes arbitration eligible after his 3rd Year of Major league service. I don't know quite how to work this into the contract situation yet (for the rosters Scorey and I are doing), but we may just put those guys under contract for whatever is left of their first six years of service at their current salary. Not sure on that though.

Yes, you can absolutely use 'Import Stats' to import contract length in addition to Salary. This would rock!
Open the file in something like Microsoft Excel and add a column after Salary.
Then when you Import Stats, select 'Salary' in the first listbox and 'Contract Length' for the 2nd list (the rest of the data in that file, like team and league, are ignored).
You also might want to double-check this file for spelling etc. For example, if one player is listed as "Jody Gerut" in Mogul, but as "Jody C. Gerut" in the file, it won't load his salary.
As for 'years of service', that's a somewhat trickier question.
Baseball Mogul should probably record TWO difference 'Experience' stats:
1. 'Years Played' -- a simple counting of years with the following exception: if a player STILL qualifies for the Rookie of the Year Award, this value will be set to 0, even if the player has some major league playing time.
2. Years of major league service (recorded to the day).
Right now, Mogul records #1, but not #2. I would like to record actualy major league service, but it gets a bit tricky, not just in programming but in game balance. For example, I don't want the user to be able to bench Cabrera when the Marlins are doing badly, just to postpone his free agent date (MLB has complex rules to prevent this -- so simplifying the rules is the trick to keeping the game comprehensible).
Before I had major league playing time, I would at least like to add Arbitration at the 3-year mark.

Thanks Clay, all very good to know. That'll go a long way towards making this process easier!
I too would love to see arbitration come into the game. Something freeform would be awesome. I was actually thinking about this today. Based on the player's experience, performance, etc. you could have an Assistant GM that suggests the amount to be offered in Arbitration, but allows the GM/Player to submit his own arbitration number. Up until the arbitration hearing, contracts can be negotiated. The one thing here is that typically, a team will only do a multi-year deal if they are buying out arbitration plus one year (or more...see Pujols). and I suppose that's new logic that would need to be built.
One other thing I wanted to mention regarding trades. I notice that in last year's version it was made so that any player signed as a FA in the just-completed offseason had no value on the trade market. However, if you look at teams like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and (likely this year) Kansas City, a lot of small market teams will sign FA's and once they're out of the race will trade them for prospects or cash. I understand why this game logic was put into place, b/c I used to be able to sign all the top FA's then trade them for lower priced top prospects, which severly alters the balance of the game.
Just a few thoughts.

For some players the 2002 and 2003 stats seem to be switched which is causeing some players to be on wrong teams. (like for example raul mondesi is on NYY). These players have in some cases ended up on the team they started on in 2003 instead of 2004 and the stat show up in the wrong order in the display.

Here is that same file that Clay posted but with the contract lengths for all players added (Plus Greg Maddux and Livan Hernandez added in place, I think they were accidentally overlooked before) ... Just use it as he explained in the previous post.
Hey, good job with this!
Thanks for going to the trouble of getting this info.

Sometimes it takes a while to load, I usually click import stats, then give it a minute or 2 before I click on anything else.
