On Mogul difficulty, draft prospects lowered, using ver 7.03 with no updated rosters other than BBMO's.
I was hired with one promise, get the Mets the teams first WS since 1986, adn build a perennial contender that can take on the Yankees in the long run. Armed with my trusty geek-book, the Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract to instruct me what type of players I would like to build with, and the promise that I wouldn't be fired within five seasons, I set off to dismantle this team. How to do so? Oh, did I mention that the owner wants a new stadium by the end of those 5 years, and he isn't going to contribute a dime? Let the firesale being:
My first problem is that the worst contracts are the hardest to get rid of. Luckily, none of the extremely large and cumbersome contracts run too long, so I've got that(if little else) going for me, which is nice.
The big one to move is Mike Piazza. Though he is still a great player, it is time for him to move on, especially witht he Mets on the rebuild. His contract is very burdensome, and so I am forced to include top prospect/only trading piece Jose Reyes in the deal. Still, very few takers.
NYM recieve:
Cesar Izturis
LAD recieve:
Mike Piazza
Jose Reyes
Scott Strickland
Jason Phillips
Jeff Duncan
In this deal, LA adds lots of payroll but they can actually afford it. Piazza returns to his orignal team, and has apparently shifted to 1B(OK, I did that but it makes sense as they need a 1B anyway). They also get a great young SS, some relief help, and then bench fodder(wrong Jason Phillips, that is the pitcher). The New York papers, and fans, are furois with me, but you have to fire the first shot of rebuilding sometime. Izturis is cheap and a serviceable player, just biding time until the youngsters show up. What youngsters you ask? Umm....well I'm sure they are somewhere.
NYM Recieve
Danny Haren
STL Recieves:
Cliff Floyd
Raul Gonzalez
Mike Glavine
Arron Heilman
St. Louis definetely needed some corner OF help. Though Haren is probably their best prospect, they got a great player in Floyd, plus some very good bench help. I suppose Heilman is the pitcher to replace Haren in the rotation.[I]
NYM Recieves:
Chone Figgins
Aaron Sele
ANA Recieves
Jason Phillips
Al Leiter
Jae Wong Seo
Pat Strange
Daniel Wheeler
[I] I actually don't cut much salary, but I really like Figgins potential wise(though my scouts dure don't) and Sele contract is a year short. I lose pretty much the rest of my trading pieces here. What Anaheim is going to do with their OF(4 already, 5 if you include Erstad) and 1B(Phillips and Erstad)is beyond me, but I guess we will see.
NYM Recieve
Ramon Santiago
SEA recieves
Tom Glavine
Cesar Izturis
Ty Wigginton
Again, pair youngster to get rid of a big contract. My scouting is awful ut really likes Santiago, and this was actually offered to me. Fun.
