View Full Version : Definitions of peak, upside ratings + scout score
on the help file its says
Overall: The player's current ability level, calculated by combining all other ratings (and weighting them appropriate -- for example, 'power' is more important than 'speed').
Peak: The player's current ability level, calculated by combining all other ratings (and weighting them appropriate -- for example, 'power' is more important than 'speed').
I assume that for peak it should be potential rather than current.
Also what is the upside rating about? I have seen a player with overall rating 61 and peak 61, yet have an upside of +11, what does the upside rating mean? can there overall rating go to 72 even though there peak is 61.
Also what the difference between scouts score and overall rating?

Yes you are correct about the Overall and the Peak..... but as far as the Upside Rating is where you are off...... Lets say you are First in the league In Scouting and you have an upside of 0, that means your ratings are accurate to a tee..... Lets say you are last in the Majors in Scouting.... and you have an upside of 12. Lets say you are looking up Moises Alou and these are his ratings
Overall 78
Peak 78
Contact 69
Power 81 so forth
If the Upside rating is at 12 that means he could range from any of the following...
Overall 66-90 (Anywhere from 12 below to 12 above)
Peak 66-90
Contact 57-81
Power 69-93
Basically it shows you exactly how accurate your Player Ratings are.
As far as the minor Leaguers and Scouting Score- This I am not sure of but I believe it is just a 10 point grade system telling you how good exactly they feel this player may be
Hope I helped out some.

I tend to disagree with this explanation of the upside score.
Case in point....I picked the Cubs as my team....brought their scouting up to number 1 in the league....Very important step to be the BEST is scouting....This will bring your +/- to 0.....Then I took a look at their team roster and selected the current, peak and upside ratings to display....The upside for every player was PEAK rating minus CURRENT rating....So if Greg Maddux is 88/88 then his upside is 0.....and If Sergio Mitre is a 65/74 then his upside is a 9....If you pay your scouts well then you will get these EXACT numbers....
Here is a file I saved of the Cubs roster showing what I have explained.
I don't know if this is a bug or is a bug isolated to the demo version, but even with perfect scouting, I am finding sometimes my players peak values will increase. This doesn't agree with the previous explanations of peak value or the intuitive meaning that came to mind.
I've had a player with something like 81/83 jump to a 93/93 by the end of the season in a good farm system.

yes if you have a good farm, then players will develop better, and there they will have higher peaks, if you dont like this, then click on simulation mode when you start the game. This should take the randomness out,

Exactly right. Just because a prospect projects to be a star today, doesn't mean he will end up being one and it may very well happen that at some point in the minors the guy hits a wall. Conversely, some guys seem to come out of nowhere and their projected peak changes. The growth curve of a minor league player is so big that it's very easy for guys to show up and disappear in real life...I think the game's engine is taking that into consideration.
