Why is it that no matter what team I use, once the second or third season begins, I am suddenly way over budget? I've gone from a Series losing team to a team that's 33 under .500 in 2 seasons because I can't afford any free agents! After the first season I had over $16 million in cash, and I signed nowhere near that in new contracts following the season. I began with the Pirates, knocked off $23 million in salaries so I'd have some cash, and eventually I didn't have it anyways. Why is the math so horrible? It's as if 83 - 23 = - 4 or something! I mean, I understand the Pirates are a small-market team, but trading away all the pricey players for players earning less than half shouldn't put me in debt. This is making the game impossible to win and to not experience many consecutive losing seasons because of no funds. I shouldn't have to have a fire sale every season just to stay in the red.
