View Full Version : How important are the help files?

If you haven't noticed yet, the Baseball Mogul Online menu has a 'Help' item that is supposed to display a help page describing each screen. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. This is one area of the game we are still working on.

So, I'm wondering how much better the game would be if we put effort into making sure the help files are detailed, accurate, well-written and well-organized? Or is the game easy to learn without these files finished?

Thanks,

Clay

For newbie's I think it is very important. It wasn't that long ago that I was a newbie, and without good help files, I ended up going thru several hundred messages on the forums to get a better idea of how to play. If you want to keep new players interested you have to give them information or they'll just walk.

I'm not sure how good your poll info will be since you're polling mostly veterans. How many newbies even look around the forum, particularly the 'Rants and Raves?'

I am a newbie. I've used the help pages quite a bit. When they are accurate, they clear up my problems and let me get back to what really matters...managing my team. Without understanding what the information means, you run the risk of getting whacked by others who already know whats going on.

Better help pages can only enhance a pretty good game.

Clay,

The Help section is a great resource for gamers, and helps a newbie build a strategy. Having a completed help sections is one of the 5 or 10 things that would most help BBMO, IMO.

I still want to know what the health rating tells me about a player, I'm clueless :)

As someone looking through the game as a free member right now, I find the help useful. I am still trying to decide about playing and finding help on how things like contracts work (are there in-season extensions possible and from other posts there seems to be a bidding at the end of the season) and more about the financial system.

I actually think the help files from the CD-ROM version are better.

Well i wnet back to look for it and found it...however i tried to change some of the options on the standings page......like show last 20 games instead of last 10 and it will not work for me. I tried to click on 1 of the 4 columns like it tells me to do and it will NOT work at all.... :(

But, it isn't sufficiently complete. There are still many aspects of the system that could be more completely explained.
