I have noticed that when players get injured for more than 45 days they just drop off the planet.

For example: I have a 22 yr old rookie who was rated 84 with a peak around 93. During the last sim hour he was injured with severe elbow tendenitis. Next thing I know he is rate 71 with a peak at 84...

I could see how an injury this sever could do this but the KID IS ONLY 22. THAT IS A BUG THAT HAS TO BE FIXED.

One more thing... Is HR's way to overrated nowadays? I had Scott Posendik who was rated about 84 and had a 94 contact, 73 power, and 97 speed... His range was mid 80 and defense and health around 83.

However... Adam Dunn has the same stats except he has a 95 power and a 69 speed and is rated 98...

I was just wondering about that little thing.

Last one and it is about INCONSISTENCY from players old and new. In the previous (before new rosters) you had to depend on scouting to get good players with the letter system. It seems to me that scouting is important... but \with the flucuation in ratings so frequent UP and DOWN... there is no real advantage.

Some teams hurt b/c they can't afford to sign a 25 or 26 yr old to a 7 year deal which would be cheaper than a 3 or 4. Which means they could get another player, INSTEAD they gamble on 7 years and the guy DROPS off the face of the planet...

i.e. Barry Zito, Ichiro Suzuki, Vladmir Guerreo... Ichiro I can understand because he is older but Vlad was like 32 when his major drop-off hit... usually it is 35 or 36 when they really decline

Wait... it's unrealistic that a major injury could permanently affect a player's skills? What world do you live in?

He was only 22!!! If he was 32 I would be okay with it... I don't mind the rating dropping 10 points but the PEAK should not have dropped 13 from 94 to 81... maybe 94 to 90 or something... just means he has to be in minors longer...

Look at Willis McGahee... He blows his knee... it takes him 2 years and now he has the chance to be one of the best in football...

I have noticed some very steep drops in ratings too, it's not uniform but it certainly does happen.

and I cant say its a rare occurence either
or some freak accident

at times, there isnt even a trend that hints at a player's decline.

sometimes, it happens as if someone flipped a switch

I do believe that injuries do have an effect

in this latest incarnation of BBMO, it seems that injuries have a greater power

what i am befuddled about is how some players after hitting age 33 go into major degeneration

how is vladimir guerrero performing in your league?
or a-rod? after age 33?

I think it is all completely random as far as when a player's peak begins to drop, except in the case of a major injury.

Also, what you have to consider when looking at only peak rating is that let's suppose in the example of the 22 year old pitcher. Before the injury he has a peak of 95. His health is rated a high 90-95. Then that player gets injured, his health is going to drop especially if it was a major injury. Let's suppose his health drops to 71 now. That is going to take a lot off of his peak as well as maybe a few mph off his fastball therefore his power ratings. It all makes perfect sense and injuries do happen and bad injuries are obviously going to lower a player's peak rating, as well as his health and maybe some pitching numbers. That is the way I look at it.

As for the question of players hitting a peak at an early age and going downhill from there. That is completely random as well. I have had players hit their peak at 27 yrs old and stay that way until about 31 or so then quickly deteriorate. I have also had a couple of players perform awesomely for me from age 38 on. Luis Gonzalez in a couple of leagues and Matt Stairs in another. Garret Anderson recently won MVP for me at age 35 in Homer's Hardball League http://www-2.sportsmogul.com/bb/bg.pl?page=scouting&id=2591186

People have to stop looking at Peak only, because that takes so much into consideration namely health.
