I imagine everyone has noticed that without the trading deadline on you can trade a guy one day away from ending his contract and get the same value you would had you traded him with 4 years left on it. This makes the incentive to keep a player until the end of the season and trade rather than trade him early or resign him. It also applies with the trading deadline on but to a lesser effect. Perhaps this should be sorted out?

nah....i like this, that team now has a chance to resign him, and or just use him for the stretch run!
also, you should turn on the trading deadline.

The problem I have is that I can't really resign players, I hate what FA has done to the game so I use teams that can afford to keep players without any really major trouble. The problem that I have is that these players are asking for 10 million or more then what they will as FA. I can understand a million or two more to keep them from testing the waters (though I would like to see the occasional home town discount to counter that as well since there are players who like playing in a place where they are comfortable and will take significantly less to stay there) but when every player no matter what team I control (usually I play for three or four teams at once) ask for tons more then they would as a FA that just takes alot away from the game for me. I hate having to write down all the names of these players just to go and resign them as FA.
I would also love to see a option to see what team they played for prior to being a FA on the FA screen as well.

You can see this by double clicking on the player for there scouting report

Yeah but I want something that would allow for all the players to be sorted by it. I don't want to have to access every scouting report for it. When you release 10-20 players its just so much easier to have a list with the previous team availible. That way you can just have the players listed by previous team.

I've actually noticed the opposite, most of the time. I usually play as Colorado. Now, my fav team is the Yankees but IMO controlling them would be like playing in God mode. Colorado's a happy medium. Anyway, I traded for Mark Prior in 2004. He became an FA in 2008 (I think) and actually asked for less (by the end of the final season of his contract) when he was on the team than when I released him. And, as you may know, big name free agents rarely last more than 1-4 days on the open market. I had to reload a previous save to correct my mistake.
I'm sure this doesn't happen all the time (I've seen examples of it working the way you state) but there seems to be at least SOME variation.
One thing I don't particularly like is how the AI doesn't verify its own contention. I've had Montreal offer me basically all their cash for Todd Helton when they were like 30-odd games back of the Mets (and thus, had no shot at the playoffs) at the trade deadline. I could see teams prepping for a run at the playoffs but when you're 30+ games back in late July, how much running do you plan to do? :p When I'm not in contention at the deadline, I usually start trading away big contracts for the next year's "big thing".
