Now, perhaps I'm the only one who notices this, but rookies seem to develop very woodenly. They only seem to improve in certain areas: e.g., a pitcher never improves his endurance or speed, and a hitter never improves his speed or his eye, and also doesn't improve in his fielding.
I wouldn't expect pitchers or hitting to suddenly improve in velocity or speed on the basepaths, but I see no reason why a position player can't develop his eye or his fielding, or a pitcher can't improve his ability to go late into games as he develops.
Perhaps this is inherent to the game as it has been developed, but it is something I've noticed, and has slowly grated on me over time.
"Why, why must it be this way?" I asked into the darkness. And the darkness provided no answer.
So I came here.
