The insructionss says:

"Persuasive essay: Convince me of something.
Topics for writing assignment one: In a well-written eassy coment on the statement: the "pen is mightier than the sword." Is this statement true or not? Use examples from what we have learned in class (Enlightenment and John Locke ect, American Revolution, French Revolution)

Noy sure what to say, I beleive that words are mightier but i dont know how to respnd to it and give examples for what i have learned from Enlightenment and John Locke ect, American Revolution, French Revolution.

Errr.

Any ideas?

Please help :-)

Have you read any of the articles of confederation, federalist papers, declaration of independence, or the constitution?

Write about those

indeed the pen is mightier than the sword.....basicaly whats going down now is is the articles of confederation.....years before the 1st revolution men met and wrote articles in newspapers, pamplets and wrote books......what the purpose of this was too educate the people on why there had to be a revolution....if people are ignorant about what there fighting for then there revolt would fail.....it is akin to mindless anybody but bush people now.....they mindlessly march in lockstep for kerry when kerry has the same agenda as bush but different rhetoric......you have to be for something instead of just being against something....that make sense?

Kinmob is it ok if i wrote "Many years ago people use to write why there must be a revolution in newspapers. However, if people are ignorant about what there fighting for then there revolt would fail. "

If so then i have a decent idea what i can write in my first 2 paragraphs and of course the conclusion.

My first two paragraphs could be like:

Many people think that the sword is mightier then the pen. I believe that the pen is mightier then the sword. Throughout history there has been many examples to prove that the pen is mightier. In this essay I will describe why I believe the pen is mightier then the sword.

The first reason why I think the pen is mightier then the sword is because a majority of the people fighting for there beliefs die. During wars and fights many people die and still don’t get some beliefs and right resolved. I think that it is much better to try and resolve fights and make treaties. Many years ago people use to write why there must be a revolution in newspapers. However, if people are ignorant about what there fighting for then there revolt would fail.

------------------------------
Then i would have two get two more main ideas to beack it up... i dont know what else to say and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I should start read some stuff you guys say i could learn a lot on this board.

Thanks,

JMO

glad to hear your using your brain for something other than a hatrack.....heres an angle.....pen is mightier because on the other hand more evil intentioned people use the pen to spread lies and propaganda to get the mindless masses to agree with the media propagenda or the govt. line.......we see this in our society when the entire mainstream media is owned by 5 companies.....all these 5 companies are handily represented in the CFR(council on foriegn relations).....which runs policy in this govt. ....every member in the top echelons of govt. are cfr.....

A few suggestions for you JMO

1. Avoid generalizations like: Many people think the sword is mightier than the pen...get specific...how much is many?...who are they?

2. When you say there have been many examples it would probably be good to give an example instead of just writing a general statement.

3. Try and find some good examples you can use in history that will stick in your teachers mind...something that will jump out...something that will let him/her know that you really know what you are talking about...

When is this due? You can always post what you are working on and I'll give you my feedback...:)

Basically i'm supposed to take a business, develop an in depth business plan, all that jazz, and eventually try to convince investors to buy into my firm.

In short, if it ain't 100% perfect, my butt (And Grade) are on the line. So I'm out looking for as many sources I can get my little paws on.
