I'm not sure if the game works like this already, but I was wondering... wouldn't the draft be more of a gamble if some players were harder to scout than others? Like they had a chance to be Greg Maddux, but they also had a chance to be Todd Van Poppel?
People always talk about how college-age players are safer picks, while high schoolers offer more potential upside at a bigger risk. Couldn't that be implemented?
The same with players already on your team. I think there should be a difference in the +/- rating depending on if the player is a known quantity--say, your 30 year old third baseman--or somebody who you keep waiting on to put it all together--that 25 year old center fielder who keeps hitting .220 despite his high contact rating. So your established players could be a +/- of 0, but some players not even the best scout can get a read on.

Actually I think that is already the case.
I know that I've drafted players that were very highly rated and had them just bomb. Recently I traded for a AAA SS that had a mid 90's ceiling since mine was 38. Well I've been drafted and trading for young replacements, and one of the ones that I got for a stop gap till that guy was ready simply beat him out for the job. Brought up the top prospect for a bench role at the break one year even though his stats really didn't warrent it, at the time I think he was 25, his ceiling had dropped at this time, but he was horrible in the majors and it just crashed. down to 75-80. There are very few sure fire top prospects in the game now and alot of talent you'll find is being drafted in the later rounds.
Plus I've seen players that are strickly average have really great seasons, and seen the computer managers basically sticking it to players that should be starting over what they have.
