New Catcher Rating

I'm looking to add a new rating for BB2K6 for catchers only, describing how well they manage the game and handle pitchers.

It would be nice to summarize this is one word, like "Arm" and "Fielding".

What makes sense?

"Management" is my vote, since that's the term that most fits IMO.

"Presence" would be short for "Presence of Mind". A catcher with poor Presence woudn't be able to manage the game very well and would be somewhat easier to steal against.

Pitcher and catcher chemistry would be pretty cool to have so you could match up catchers and pitchers. The catchers call better games when they are matched up with their pitchers. Like a catcher has 3 personalities lets call them A B C same with the pitcher. IF you match the an A and an A you have great chemistry and are more likely to get a better game. If you have a A and a B you get an average game if you have an A and a C the catcher has more passed balls and the pitcher throws more wild pitches.

On a sidenote, I wouldnt mind seeing a new stat showing the pct. of successful stolen bases against the catcher.

I think pitch-calling, because pitch calling can also effect how good the pitcher is doing. In baseball mogul 2005, if you had a outfielder or infielder playing catcher it wouldn't effect the pitchers, but in the major leagues if u had a outfielder catch it would dramaticaly effect the pitcher.

what does this mean...in commish mode in while editing a player...there is nothing to edit to change this...all that has been changed is the name...

I've just added these to the Player Editor for BB2K6. Thanks for pointing this out. You should also see them in the Scouting Report.

what does the new Catcher rating do??? I have options to put in number is version 7.74...but really i have no idea what they are for...I can change the numbers yet it doesnt change the rating at all...just confused:confused:

I know that you stride for accuracy, so before you put this feature in, you should read Keith Woolner's work on how mich a catcher reall effects a pithcer.

Catching is about more than just pitch calling and managing, it's about reading body language, knowing when to calm down the pitcher and generally just BEING there.

I like the term pitch calling, and i am happy to see that an catchers ability to throw out base stealers is now apart of baseball mogul.
