For example, if a player is 41 and goes to free agency, and you sign him at 10 points for 7 years, will you only have to pay his salary until he's 45 and then he retires, or will they take the extra salary and "pay" it to them? I guess I just want to know because I have Roger Clemens signed passed his 45 year mark and want to know if I will have to pay salary for the extra years past 45.

No, you do not have to pay the player after he retires. However, if you release him, you would have to pay half of his 7 year contract, so you would be paying him.
