Apparently, the Red Sox almost traded the World Series MVP to the Mets (to go play with Pedro) but the deal fell through at the last minute because the Mets wanted $14M in cash instead of the previously agreed to $2M.

i heard rumors of Double Carlos. Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran.
BELTRAN wants too much money i don't think the mets want to give him as much as he wants.

If they every wish to unload Manny's contract, now was the time. Hard to get his stock to go up much higher. As great as he is, the 20Mil a year is tough to swallow, considering how Mueller, Orlando , Bellhorn and Ortiz all made less COMBINED.
From strictly a GM perspective, that ties up a LOT of resources.
I am more suprised at all these players demanding so much money and then settle for less elsewhere (Nomah anyone)?
And why the acrimonious parting shot by Martinez, he's not the Martinez I once knew and followed in Montreal. That lacks class, I mean just after your team won the world series, is he still fixated with A'Rod when he told him he would be able to demand more money than he got in 2001?
It also seems like Varitek won't be coming back, *declined salary arbitration.
Such is baseball nowadays, feels like a video game where you endlessly re-arrange your lineup on a season by season basis.
