View Full Version : Inflation in BB2K6?

How important is it that the pre-2000 salaries reflect the actual salaries of that time?

For example, should Babe Ruth earn $100,000 per year in his prime (like he actually did)?

Or is it OK, if he earns $20,000,000 in 1927 (like he would if he played today).

FYI, Mogul currently uses a 2005-based financial engine for ALL years from 1901 to 2005. So it would be some extra work to get inflation working right. But it might be worth it.

I'd love realistic pre-2004 salaries, it's always jarring to see Honus Wagner asking for $15,000,000.

I would like to see inflation from 2005 into the future. It could happen randomly. Profits would go up, salaries would go up, then they would come down. I'd like to see that.

Personally - I really don't want to see this feature. Because of your limited time, I would MUCH rather see time spent on other features. Maybe because I don't play prior to 2004, energy spent on this feature would feel like there could have been something that would have benefited all players. I understand that there are people who want historical rookies, so I can understand the addition of that, but I selfishly want to see stuff like coaches rather than accurate payrolls. If you had all the time in the world, it might be nice to see. As for right now, it is not important to me.

:) :)

ditto.

I would love to see this implemented. This would be a cool feature along with the other ones you are adding. I dont think another sim as this feature.:)

I think this feature would be too hard to "get right".

If you don't get it right then you open yourself up to complaints of "This player is asking for $150,000 when he never earned over $60,000 in his career".

I would also assume that it would be difficult to match the league/team finances and expenses to match the salaries of the day. Would ticket prices be 50 cents in 1934 and do you adjust them up and down by a nickel?

Good luck if you can pull it off! :)

I voted essential...If...and only if...it wont be too much work to get it done, and end up being something to delay the release of the game. To be able to go back and play in the "old" days with realistic salaries would be a very nice feature.

This would take the financial challenge out of the game.

The owners made money hand over fist in the days of Babe Ruth making $100,000 per year. What challenge would that be?

I don't play pre-200? so I don't really care to much about this feature but if it were to be added alot of things would have to change in my opinion.

There would be no free agency, the reserve clause of baseball is what kept dollar amounts down. So that would have to be removed, and then you'd just have to put something in that would make it so that players would have to offer contracts to all of their players on there team at the start of the year. The players would have the option of accepting the contract or sitting out and risking being blackballed and basically kicked out of the game.

Dollar amounts mean nothing if you remove one of the primary reasons for those dollar amounts. With FA I can assure you that the salaries of even 1920 players would double at least if not substaintialy more.

Another thing that would have to be altered would be the city income, population sizes, and ticket and concession prices. In order for this to work right I think it would require a good deal of changes. Though I admit I think I would like to try playing the years that I play with the reserve clause. Always hated FA since it seems to allow only the rich teams to stock talent and turns the poorer teams into AAAA teams.

I've played the franchise mode for the Madden football series (most recently the 2004 version), and inflation is present. If you play for 20 seasons or so, eventually the salary cap approaches $200 million, and top players are asking for annual salaries of over $25 million. It becomes difficult to establish the context for the future dollar values, in other words what is the 2005 equivalent of a salary in 2025. To make a long story short, I think the game would be more more consistent and less complicated if inflation was not included.

Instead of making inflation historical just add something into the game so that the per capita income doesn't fall continuously. It's a little rough when your PCI starts out at $27,789 and when you play ten seasons in your down to around $24,000.

I know this was supposed to be helped by adding the sallary demands and league revenue options in the league editor but PCI needs to be something that rises and falls over time.
