So, i was just reading this article (http://www.battersbox.ca/article.php?story=20050222070211718) over at Batters Box, talking about how few 300-game winners there really have been in 'modern' baseball.
In my league, i've seen almost the exact opposite. I have a ton of guys who've won 300. One team has 3 300-game winners in the rotation.
I'll post the exact numbers when i get home, but does anyone else find this to be the case?

well O.K., i suppose six isn't a ton, but six (soon to be seven) under modern pitching condtions... not too bad.
And how 'bout the San Francisco Seals: 3 300-game winners in their rotation. Sure, it's because they are a good team with a stable rotation of veteran pitchers (all of these pitchers have been active for 20-22 years, and are aged 37-45).

Clay,
When you make the files for names do you just add the first and last names of players who have been in pro baseball or do you just add common names?

Hey, it's your random name generator :)
I actually like all the weird names and have put a whole bunch more unique and unusual names in the files... how many other leagues can lay claim to 5 or 6 players named Japeth?

I was really kinda freaked out one day when i was looking at the leaderboard for saves and saw that i was the #2 closer with 37 saves. I just thought it was interesting because there is only one Christiano in the names list and the one i saw was my full name. I used to add my name to he list in 2K5 but never saw it.

Well I just got an e-mail from a REAL person named "Bill Dill". So I guess Otis Itis isn't too weird.
The first database had names that I pulled from a cheap white pages CD-ROM I bought. I actually only used 1 ZIP code in San Francisco to keep the DB manageable.
A few months ago, I got annoyed that some names were repeated so often, so I copied in the thousands of people that ever ordered a Mogul game (then I go through by hand and divide them into hispanic, asian and 'default').

I found name frequency lists from 2000 census data and turned it into a data-base, weighed the more common names to appear more often and added in lots of other names, class-mates, senators, presidents, supreme court justices, and 'ethnic' names from sites that specialize in that sort of thing.
sometimes, i have way too much time on my hands. :)

You get close to mine with Shupp and Shutt. Too bad I'll just have to edit myself into the game :D

so does that mean I'm "in the game?"

What it means is that both your first and last name are in the game seperately. This also means tho that there is a likelyhood that you will show up in the game as a randomly generated rookie.
