View Full Version : Complete Games & Shutouts

I have two "Complete Game"-related questions, because it's one of my favorite pitching stats to track:

1) Why isn't there a shutout column on the pitching stats page? I actually think that's more interesting than CG. Is there a way to view complete game shutouts other than with some kind of export tool?

2) I have a LOT of games (~10 per season?) that have a pitcher going 8.2 innings instead of the full 9. I would understand this if they were 1-0 games or there were men on base, but it will often be more like 7-0 with nobody on base and the closer comes in to get the last out. I guess I might be able to solve this by tinkering with the "high pitch counts" slider, but it seems odd that such an unrealistic event would happen in the first place.

You can track shutouts from the roster screen by changing the collum headings.

I like complete games too and it does kind of get me when they leave games like that. If you increase the pitchcount slider you'll get more complete games but also increase wear and tear. It's sometimes not such a good idea though because if you have a good bullpen they will often outperform a tired starter.

Sure a good reliever will outperform a tired starter... but if the starter has already gone 8.2 innings and there's nobody on base, who cares if he has to pitch to 2-3 guys to get that final out. I think pride would play a factor if an actual major league manager tried to pull a guy in that situation.

I was saying that more for when a guy was in the 7th and was tired. I agree they should complete the game unless they are giving up important runs. It's just that increasing the slider will increase all of the pitchcounts, not just in the 8.2 games.
