trouble with patches

Any unofficial patch just gives me a "Skins\SportsMogul\NewsColors.ini is missing. Please reinstall Baseball Mogul" when I try to use them. The offical patch will auto-update(8.09=everyone injured). Am I doing something wrong? I opened the bbm06 folder and tried to manually patch it but get same message.

The unofficial patches are actually just new .exe files, so just extract the patch into the main BBM 2k6 folder, and it should work fine.

thats what I try to do but I get that message and then it asks if I want it to open the BM install directory. I try to patch it there but it goes through the same thing again

Make sure your putting it in while the game isn't running.

make sure that the game is extracted from the folder, it should have the baseball mogul 2006 logo.

It does. Looks just like the one on my desktop. I drag it over to one on my desktop and it just starts the game but does not update to the patch.
