If you had to choose...Would you rather have rosters accurate as of opening day or current rosters?

Scorey,
Any idea when you might be releasing your roster for this year ?

I would rather not give an estimated date at this time...I don't want to disappoint anyone if I do not end up working at the pace I promised...At this point I am researching contract info and trying to get a decent list of FA's into the csv file...After I do this I'll save the game as a universe.mog and edit from there.

to me there is no question about whether databases should be based on opening day rosters or not.
the game starts on opening day (if you're starting in 2005) not on opening day plus a certain number of days. if the giants end up bringing in manny ramirez (not possible but a guy can dream right?) in real life, that's great... i should have to make the appropriate trade to get him on the game too. it only hurts the accuracy of the game to go with anything other than opening day rosters.
after all, making roster corrections is all about accuracy in the first place anyway right?
thank you for your time scorey... i've been a fan of yours (more like a silent observer) for a while.

If you're still looking for salary info, I found this site to be pretty accurate: http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005_01_11_mlbcontracts_archive.html

i completely agree. since you start an entirley new season on opening day you should have entirley customized season. accurate opening day rosters would allow you to do whatever you wanted with whatever team, even if they made a block buster trade in real life.

so what are you going to do scorey... i made my argument for my position and i stand by it, and i won't belabor that point.
but have you decided which method to go with?

Scorey, I already made a 2005Rosters.csv file using that website's salary info (adding to the updated rosters file created by liveandletdie), if that helps you. It's somewhere down the page, in this forum, in a thread I started...

I have decided!!!...And the answer is--Opening Day Rosters
The major line of thinking with this is being able to use the roster long term to recreate an accurate 2005 season from the beginning...After I'm done with it then whomever wants can update it to present day accuracy, but I think it's best to have an accurate roster as of opening day.

I will have to take a look at it...I've already done most of the math though...so...I may just finish what I started...Did you add in player option years? Also are the average salaries from only 2005 on or did you take the average from when the contract actually started?

I agree. It's also easier for you because instead of having to update it practically every day for new transactions, you can focus one making one, amazing opening day roster (not that your other rosters aren't amazing). I can't wait!

I added player option years for everyone, but only averaged out the salaries starting in 2005. I wasn't trying to be super-accurate; just wanted a file that had a decent resemblance of the actual salaries...

I think if we ask him every five minutes, it'll make him go faster. :)
Or you could do as I did and start a dynasty in an interesting time period for your favorite team. 1990 Pirates for me, where I'm trying to hold it together beyond 1992. :p
