Doom would like to create some skins for BBM but Doom needs some inspiration. What would you like to see in a custom skin? Please post your ideas/suggestions here.

InRepair would like a skin that evoked turn-of-the-century Deadball-type play. You know...black-and-whites and sepia tones...wooden beams holding up ramshackle stadiums...heavy cotton uniforms...something very earthy and authentic, not like our current day of artificial turf and neon and ad-sponsored everything.

Great Idea! I'll try to have it done by this weekend.

I think it would be nice to have something in the backround like a guy diving after a ball or at the plate, and have it kind of look blurry like the rookie photos. A mosiac of some sort like that would look pretty cool.

How about team colors/logos.

team colors/logos have been something i have been meaning to ask about. it would so much better if they were in the game.
how do you get them into mogul. you go to skins but the what folder do you put them in?

BBM isn't capable of displaying team logos unless they're on a skin.

I second the "deadball era" suggestion. Something with a wooden background, sort of like the 1987 Topps baseball cards.

Not a bad idea. A skin like this sounds like it would work well with a fictional league.

Well since mogul doesn't display team logos, the best I can do is replace the dialog backgrounds with team logos.

I like the idea but I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by flanel uniform textures. Do you mean pictures of players wearing flanel uniforms? If so, do you know where I could find some of those pictures?

Also, I'm hoping to have the deadball skin completed by monday or tuesday. I would say that its about 50% complete at this point.

Instead of just colors some close-ups of old jerseys. Like you'd use in a background on your desktop when you use the tiled option. here's one.

and another that you can really see the cloth well on.

Logos for each team aren't something we support, but I've been thinking about working them into the Scouting Pages at least.
The deadball-style skin is a great idea. It'd also be fun to see a team-specific skin (like one with photos of the Red Sox and Fenway).

The logos thing is easily understood. I would like to see someone come up with something with logos though. How much does MLB and the MLBPA charge for licenses just out of curiosity?

Too much.
:(
I've seen rates from 5.5% to 8.5% for EACH group. So you could pay 17% of your revenue to get both logos.
The tricky part for a small company is the advance money required. You might have to write a check for $100,000 before you sell any games or pay any royalties.
And the really tough part for ANY company is that licensing always requires they approve your game before your ship it.
So you might have the game done and ready to go out the door but then the MLBPA demands 3 months of changes and you miss your deadline (and published a weaker game than the one you wanted to publish).
As a DEVELOPER, it can be more like a year instead of 3 months if your publisher doesn't keep you in the loop or do a good job working with the licensors.
Luckily, there's nothing preventing people from sharing logos for their own personal use. So our goal for Mogul is to include some generic logos that you can replace.

Ok, I can do that.

This is something I actually was considering and will probably do after I complete a few more general skins.
Anyway, here is the current status of the deadball skin as well as a preview pic.
Standings background: 99%
Finances background: 90%
Leaders background: 99%
Headlines background: 0%
Calendar background: 99%
Playoffs background: 100%
Transactions background: 100%
Summary backgrounds: 100%
Play by Play background: 0%
Mogul Hall of Fame background: 0%
Dialogs: 10%
NewColors.ini: 10%
Let me know what you guys think of the preview pic. Also, sorry its taking so long to complete. Finding quality pictures from the deadball era is rather difficult. I hope to have it finished by tonight though.

How about using the city logos from BBM's early versions? Something that size would not only allow us to use all those logos already available for OOTP (those are 150×150 BTW) but we could also take advantage of the larger size.

here's an quick espn-type scouting dialog i made - didn't do anything else on it, i was just bored for awhile ... having team logos that we could replace would be AWESOME -- any chance of that being included in a patch sometime soon?

Hey, and now that I think of it....good job, Me, for coming up with such a great idea for a skin! Yay, me!

In NewsColors.ini, you should be able to change the RGB value next to 'DEFAULT_GAMES_STATUS' and it will change the purple.
(I think the default is {151,51,153} which is purple)
Clay
(BTW, you can click 'Reload Current Skin' inside Mogul everytime you edit the NewsColors.ini -- this way you don't have to keep restarting the game, or switching skin choices back and forth just to test your new RGB setting)

Here is a little Standings Skin I cooked up no real theme to it but I like what it does to the standing screen.
Side Note: Highlights are as on as I can get them varies just enough from on division and 3 divisions to throw it off but not much.

Somebody mentioned a '50s Chrome skin. Here's an example of something I started working on, inspired by a diner.

Hmm...I made a new folder so I could test that screen but it won't load for some reason. Keeps reverting to the currently installed skin. Anyway, here's how it currently looks in-game.

Wow, Jeff. I really like that chromic skin. The only possible "flaw," for lack of a better word, is the black text blending into the shading demarcating where the chrome folds upwards and downwards. I do think it's very cool, though.

Doom, the picture on the left of your deadball era looks like the old South End Grounds. Is it? if so Northern Brave has his wish sort of. South End Grounds was the Boston Braves Home until it burned in 1894. It was rebuilt but not as beautifully as insurance only covered 60% of the damage.

Those are some awsome deadball era pics. Do you want a boston deadball era skin or something that isn't era specific?

That's where I'm going to submit them but as of now they still haven't added a section for BBM2K6, so I don't know when they will be up. For now I suppose I can e-mail them to people as they request them.

I would appreciate any different skins. Just trying to help with what I can. Is creating skins relatively easy? and if so where would one start? I really am impressed with some of the work I see for this and other things like winamp.

Creating the skins is fairly easy especially if you have a program like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. The only difficult part is figuring out what you want your end result to be. Also, If you do not have Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop you could always try GIMP for Windows (http://www.gimp.org/) which is free.
There is a readme in the skins folder with all of the necessary info on creating a skin
