SF Giants sent Barry Bonds with 3 minor leagues to St. Louis for a career minor leaguer.

Yeah, I understand Bonds might be overpaid... but this kind of trade... I really feel bad about it...

The game puts alot of precedence in the contract of players with respect to their value/ability.

If somebody is not worth what they're making, the computer will consider it an advantage for them if you want to take them in a trade. So they'll literally take anything for him just to dump their contracts.

In some ways, I believe this is good, in some ways I think its bad.

On the good side, it allows the CPU to be more competitive, it allows the CPU to play as you would; trading away bad contracts for more "efficient" players who are worth more than their money or at least equal to their money.

On the other hand (the bad), this shouldn't always be the case. It comes off a tad unrealistic when you have teams just so willing to dump off their franchise players for peanuts. I could only understand this move if the player makes an obscene amount of money with respect to his value (ie. Sosa). In BBM2k6, they don't take into account just making a "little bit more than what they are worth" (which shouldn't impose the CPU to immediately want to dump the guy).

Also, each team should have a different philosophy. I mean the Yankees know they are overpaying guys, but they aren't out there trying to dump most of them (with the exception of Giambi earlier in the year). The point is, if the team is competitive, and the team is making a ton of money anyways, then they'll accept having overpaid these players, so they won't give them away for peanuts. This is not the case in BBM2k6.

I think this could relate to the reason why alot of free agents are NOT being signed. The computer almost flat out refuses to overpay for players. Which is a strength of the game, however in real life you know very well that teams overpay for players during the free agent stages all the time.

My opinion: I think in BBM2k6, a player shouldn't completely lose his value to the team unless he is making well above what he is worth (a certain high threshold). Making a small amount more than your worth, shouldn't activate it, and the player should still be of some value to that team. I mean, if he is making more than he's worth, sure maybe it should lower his value slightly compared to if he was making less, however I don't think it should make it an advantage for them for you to take him. That particular situation (an advantage for the CPU for you to take one of their players) should only happen so rarely (when a guy is making alot more than they are worth and is considered underperforming).

If you'd like to test this out. Go start a season in 2005. Make a trade with the Yankees. You can pretty much pick up any of their star players that you want without offering much. Randy Johnson..... easily, Gary Sheffield......easily.

The only exceptions are those that aren't making much. ie. Matsui (was only making minimum $316,000).

the game really does value player salary, but in that game i have noticed it is very necessary in the game. having a low payroll in BBM can help you win many championships in the future. even though not every teams philosphy is like that it certainly works in BBM.
