Check out the yahoogroup SHWI-ISOT if you like history. In fact, I invented baseball in 1800, along w/the phonograph, and I am now a U.S. Senator from New YOrk.
The premise is you appear as yourself having been taken "in the sea of time" back to the 1800s - we started in 1800 and are now up to 1821. We've got slavery on it way out, we've invented a bunch of thigns though lots needs modified yet, like having working raadios, and so on. You appear with just the clothes on your back and a laptop (which your old computer has become), with one CD plus whatever ou have on your hard drive at the time you join. You appear wherever you are, of course, so you might want to appear where you live and travel to a more convenient place from which to work to make the world better (like I did going from NE Ohio to New York.)
