Philadelphia Athletics Moving!

After a horrible last place finish in the American League last year, owners of the Athletics have decided it'd be best to move on and test a new market. People of baseball, meet the new Kansas City Athletics! The A's plan playing in a new baseball park, to be named Municiple Stadium, for the 1955 season. Whether or not this fresh city means a fresh start for the A's is something to watch for.

Red Sox 1955 Lineup

1: Jackie Jenson, CF (.276/.359/.472)
2: Jim Piersall, RF (.285/.338/.395)
3: Dick Gernert, 1B (.261/.414/.348)
4: Ted Williams, LF (.345/.513/.635) $
5: Sammy White, C (.282/.307/.426)
6: Grady Hatton, 3B (.224/.339/.296) $
7: Billy Goodman, 2B (.303/.370/.376)
8: Milt Bowling, SS (.249/.337/.368)

Bench: Sam Mele, Harry Agganis, Karl Olsen, Ted Lepcio, Pete Daley *, and Eddie Joust $.

$ = contract year
* = rookie season

GM thoughts: This lineup revolves around Ted Williams performence day-in and day-out. If Jenson, Piersall, and Gernert can set the table well for Williams, this will be a productive group. Goodman adds a nice bat towards the end of the lineup, but Hatton has to step it up. Overall this is a pretty decent lineup as long as Ted Williams stays Ted Williams.

Red Sox 1955 Rotation

1: Mel Parnell (3-7, 3.70)
2: Williard Nixon (11-12, 4.06)
3: Frank Sullivan (15-12, 3.14) $
4: Tom Brewer (10-9, 4.65)
5: Hal Brown (1-8, 4.12)

Bullpen: Leo Kiely, Ike Delock, Russ Kemmerer, Tom Hurd *$, Bill Henry, and Ellis Kinder $.

$ = contract year
* = rookie season

GM thoughts: This is an area that worries me. These pitchers are more then just question marks. Parnell only started fifteen games last year while Brown was in the bullpen for much of last season. Then again, if full potential is reached we may see some very good things from Sullivan. We can only hope a leader steps up.

Up next: Let the games begin!
