View Full Version : Any Provision For Dead Teams?
In Beta 14 there are only about 6 teams that have bid on free agents so far this offseason, so I am wondering how many of the other teams still have live owners. I know this is a free Beta, so it's not likely that there will be dead teams once people are spending $$$, but I am curious as to whether a team will become free again if there is not activity.

Here's the plan we expect to set up:
After 90 simulated days without logging in, your team switches to "Computer Manager". This means the computer does the equivalent of clicking 'Auto-Sort' after each sim, to help keep injured players off the roster.
After 365 simulated days without logging in, your team switches to "Computer GM". This is the same as being controlled by the computer (with the CPU making financial, trade and free agent decisions) except that you regain control as soon as you log back in.
And obviously, once we move to a subscription-based system, if you quit the service your team (or teams) will be returned to computer control (and other owners will be allowed to take them over if they wish).

What about 'reviving' a team that is 535 points in debt?
I have just taken over the Tampa Bay team in Fast Sim 6, since my brother owns the Texas team (who won the championship last season!), and to my dismay they are 535 points in debt, and 8 games out of the playoffs- in 1 month! Can I take out a loan or something? How about debt consolidation?

Debt Consolidation! LOL
I just took over the Minnesota team in Fast Sim 11 with the same situation. I wasted the payroll, traded away everyone and am re-building with youth. Payroll is 34.
The best theoretical answer would be that the team would loose its debt if a new owner took over, or there would be a better way to examine these teams before you take them. The first option could lead to cheating, but the second would lead to teams never again owned because someone cheated their way through it or the computer behaved poorly.
Is it possible, however, to "contract" the league by a few teams if a team remains computer owned for say four years instead with the possiblity to expand in the future if an owner was willing to start from basically zero? This way, what would be shown as open teams in older leagues would actually be expansion teams?

How do I retain control of my fast-sim team if I go on vacation for a week? (I lose the team after 365 simulated days without logging in which takes 3 real days).
Also, I was higher bidder on about 10 players in beta 74 and I didn't get any of these players. Some of these players remained in the free agent pool after bidding closed. What did I do wrong?

playshogi,
After you have bid on the, the box that said "bid" turns into a box that says "sign" your suppose to click that sign button, and then a second screen will come up for your confirmation. It seems like you didn't click the sign button, or it hadn't said sign during the FA bidding process. Kind of like a player who holdsout, ie. you were the high bidder but it wasn't enough for the player to play so he refuses to sign with you.

We are considering adding a user-selectable switch that says the team will not be computer controlled until such-and-such a date. Although we may not do that, depending on how the testing works.
Fundamentally, though, you probably want the computer to take over your team if you miss 2 simulated seasons. Otherwise you will return to find that you did not renew anybody's contract over that two year period, and many of your players have vanished.
Once the computer begins to manage or GM your team, you can instantly regain full control just by logging in.
