View Full Version : Historical Aspect Of League

Still wondering about certain aspects of the game; (which I have
decided to get sometime next month). With respect to historical
simulated leagues does the game just keep the same players in it
or does it add new players into the game? I understand about the
amateur draft at least I think it's called that but if I start with
say 1920 will these players still be in the game when it reaches
1940? Does the game retire players on its own or do we do that?
Finally how are the expansion teams handled by the game?
I'm thinking of doing a historical sim up to a certain point then
getting more detail involved in a future year. But this way I would
have some history behind me.

Thanks

Brad

2K6 tries to add real players when they were 18, no matter when they were really drafted.

If you start in, say, 1920, the Yankees will have future Murduer's Row member Earle Combs in the minors. Satchel Paige will be on one of Cleveland's farm teams. Kiki Cuyler will be a Pirates prospect. Gabby Hartnett will be a Cubs prospect.

As you progress in your career, real players will be in the Amateur Draft poll at around age 18. If there isn't enough real players to fill out the entire pool, generated ones will be added. Joe DiMaggio will show up around 1933, Jackie Robinson four years later.

Currently, players retire on their own. Exactly when they retire depends on a collection of circumstances like staying in the minors for too long, staying a free agent for too long, or being over 44. Although Clay says there is no forced retirement, everyone retires by 45 whether or not they're still effective, which means the game is currently not capable of accurately simulating the career of a Nolan Ryan or a Phil Niekro. They'll retire way too early.

Expansions and moves (e.g.: St. Louis to Baltimore in 1954) are done automatically until 2005. In case you were wondering, you cannot take control of an expansion team.

... until just after the expansion draft that is...

Also just to further Jeff's comments, you will find that pre WW2 stats are going to vary wildly from real life. I haven't seen Babe Ruth simulated properly for instance. He still ends up a good player, and a home run hitter relative to the other players int he league, but not the 60 HR hitting wrecking machine he was IRL.

So my idea of creating a league that the game SIMS will give me
something approaching reality. With historical records and a major
league as it appears in modern times?
Thanks very much Jeff for your reply that was absolutely BRASS.

Later and Kudos to All

Pre 1940? Probably not. Post, quite likely.

So before 1940 the league may be somewhat "skewed" but
relatively accurate afterwards?

Essentially yes. Well "accurate" is not the right word, but plausible would be. You'll see the league from good hitting to good pitching years as in real life, but the names at the tops of the leader boards may not be what you expect. For instance don't expect Nolan Ryan to ever pitch effectively for all those years, and Roger Maris probably will never hit more than 45 HR's.

Along with Strat which is a game I dearly love; I must say that
Mogul is a very entertaining SIM and challenging. Still exploring with
the Demo version and was wondering what the Simulator function
actually is for. Since it isn't included with the Demo.
Also for some reason I'm having a heck of a time joining the
Mogul online part. Keeps saying it will send me an email to finish
the registration process but never actually does.
Hope that posting here doesn't get this post totally lost.

Okay, using simulation mode somewhat stabilizes player performance so the atypically great seasons aren't quite as great and the atypically lousy seasons aren't quite as lousy. It also helps a bit in prospect development and on the fly player re-ratings. Essentially BBM is a 90%+ pure random numbers game. Simulation mode lowers that a bit.

As to BMO, well it seems that there are only certain email addresses it likes. I posted the same complaint (http://forum.sportsmogul.com/showthread.php?t=53571) a while back, and michaelg123789 replied suggesting I get a yahoo email account. I did and I finally got the validation information.

So I gather that the Simulation thing is either played "on" or "off"
with some sort of means to activate the feature?
Received the link from the guy in charge (Carl?) this morning
and my membership to BMO is activated. Now to familiarize
myself with the program.

Thanks

You can activate Simulation Mode when starting a new game or in the League Options in a current game - just below the Difficulty.
