A few thoughts after playing a few different games with 8.31:

1) Is there a way we could reserve minor league roster spots? What I mean by this is if I set up 5 AAA, 6 AA, 5 A, and 7 R, that if I hit the resort button, I could keep those distributions? Failing that, could we rank people at a position, so they slot accordingly?

The distribution of minor leagues is still way way off. I've had teams with 1 AAA, 2 A, and 21 rookie slots, which is impossible to develop talent with.

2) I'm finding this loophole in the free agent series. If you wait until March, you can tie people up at half or less of what they wanted in October. Likewise, players on my team are asking for far more from me than they would start for in free agency. I had a player (Tim Raines) in a 80's sim..he asked for 25 million a year from me, I let him go, started at 18 mill in free agency, and I signed him the next april for 6 million a year for 7 years, plus 3 years team option. Perhaps a loophole fixing this so that they only take the discounted rate for one year?

3) In the real MLB, you can't trade draft picks for one year. Particularly for historical sims, I'd like to see that rule enacted. It's far too easy for me to pick up a future HOF level player for four scrubs. (The scrubs for stars is still too easy to do, particularly in the first year of a sim. I find myself trading away 2/3 of my minor league system for 8-10 better players which can make a difference.)

4) I wonder if one can correlate in the code a rough historical level of the league for attendance. It seems to be far too high, even for the Mogul level I play.

5) The money balance seems to be significantly improved. I guess the question is this: How does the game handle inflation? Right now, it seems to be inflation neutral, but I'd still like to play the game without fiddling. In the years without tv money, it's harder to balance.

6) If we're playing a historical sim, can we figure out some way to expand stadiums? You can buy a new stadium now, or edit it, but it only lasts a year. While I'm not a coder, perhaps code could go in to not access the stadium database if the stadium has been edited?

7) I once saw this done on a soccer sim, but for baseball, it'd work well. They had a series of random events, which would happen at random times, with the more major it was, the less likely it was to happen. Some sample events might be "Your stadium needs $10 million in renovations" or "John Smith spoke to the media saying he would not resign under any circumstances" This adds a touch of realism.

8) While I realize interactive play-by-play is a ways off, I wonder if something could be coded called "Playoff manager differences"--this would cover things like bringing starters in to pitch in a deciding game, etc.

Don't get me wrong, the game gets better over time. That being said, there are things from BM99 that were broken then and still aren't proper. It's a long way from reality, especially compared to sims in other sports.

I'm glad I bought it, and there's a possibility (I'm a teacher) I may be buying a large quantity of games as a companion to their summer reading of 'moneyball'--I'm just not sure it's working properly enough for high school students to be able to use it to test things from the book.
