From what I've read and heard on and through various papers and news programs, the guy would not stop and in this situation that was a fatally stupid error on his part. Cops don't carry guns in England, this guy had plenty of time to stop and give it up before a backup with a gun showed up. A BIG judgement error on his part. I don't feel bad about his exit from the gene pool. We don't need dopes like that adding to the confusion and mayhem.

Shoulda stopped when he had the chance. If a cop wants to talk to me I'm probably going to stop and find out what he wants. With all of the terrorist threats going on right now everyone should be a bit more cooperative. I'm not advocating volunteering for a cavity search or surrendering your legal weapons but it's not asking much to just stop and answer a simple question.

Just remember, anybody can dress like a cop. Always be rude and question everything.

If the police did nothing, or stopped for fear of hurting this guy, and he did have a bomb then you'd be on here accusing Blair, Bush and a cabal of devil worshiping billionaires of standing by and doing nothing. It is unfortunate that he was just ignoring the cops, but if you're going to take those chances then you're likely not going to like the payout.

I thought that this was the train thread. But to answer your question, a taser cannot catch up with a running man. A bullet on the other hand.........

Cops are taught (and rightly so) to shoot to kill. If you start aiming your shots you very likely will miss and wind up on a coroners table yourself. Remember that the bad guys usually cant shoot at all and can only be considered to be shooting to kill every time.

a taser cannot catch up with a running manTasers don't always work, either (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/FEF14497BCEBA7A3862570D9001C7DD6?OpenDocument).
The incident started just after 1 p.m. at Route 109 and Clayton Road near Lafayette High School. Police reported several calls about a woman in a fur coat flourishing a knife and pointing a long gun at motorists. Riegel lived in the 500 block of Black Canyon Court, authorities said.

Police said she jumped onto a DHL delivery truck and threatened the driver, ordering him to drive her. The driver was not injured.

The delivery truck stopped near the corner of Still Creek Pass and Larimer Trail in a neighborhood lined with two-story houses.

Riegel jumped out and was walking up the street, waving the gun and knife, and residents there also called police, said St. Louis County police Sgt. Mason Keller.

Police said officers ordered her to drop her weapon. One of the officers shot her with a Taser stun gun, but the dart did not penetrate her thick coat, and the shock was not effective, police said.

Keller said Riegel then raised the gun, pointing it at one of the officers. The officer fired, striking her several times. She was taken to St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where she died.
