Reduce the quality of your offense and increase your pitching and defense, this will make for more low scoring games, which IRL increases the number of save situations, even on losing teams.

Well what you need to do is reduce the ammount of CG's. In his era(which I'm playing right now) there are still too many CG's to let guys get too many chances.
