View Full Version : Salary (point) Cap?

I'm sure this must have come up before, but is there any reason why we couldn't have a Salary Cap as an option for online leagues?
I know I'd find it a lot more fun to compete on an even playing field, and the loss of the ticket-price and TV settings really wouldn't bother me at all...
I also think this would greatly improve the filling of leagues, as there would be no reason to avoid the tiny markets. When this game starts charging money, having the option to play on a level playing field would help a ton IMO...
As an option when creating/joining a new league, give every team a set amount of points each year, and let us go at it! :)

I rather see a league where all of the cities and stadiums are balanced, so that no one team will have the upper hand financially. Salary caps can be a nightmare, depending on how complicated they are.

Salary caps often end up with the rich cities saving huge bank accounts then just buying low contract quality players from cash strapped clubs for huge sums.
Equalization is quick and easy but many of mogul players like to maintain as high a sense of realism as possible.
Revenue sharing can get very, very messy. It's next to impossible to find a system that works over the long term and isn't vunerable to abuse by the conniving.
My preferred method of game balance would be a simple Mogul point penalty/bonus added each season score based upon each teams market size and strength. Winning in NY few points, winning in KC lots.

I was talking about doing an equalized league as an optional league, along the lines of the fast sim leagues. Have most of the leagues have the standard realistic city data, but also have a few where all of the cities and stadiums are equalized. The people who want the teams to behave like in real life can do the standard leagues, but those who want a balanced league, or just want a change in pace (for those who will be sigining up for more than one league at a time) can do the equalized league.

i think the best way would be to equalize the cities. This small sacrifice of realism will solve a load of problems.
