I have tried creating players with really great numbers. Eg. .400 Avg, 100 HR, 200 RBI,...etc. (under the predicted stats page). I set the players age to be 25 and have peak years for 25-39. On the first season, the player's performance is as predicted, but on the following season, his performance drops dramatically. From 100 HR to 50, 40, 30, 15HR over a 4 year period. Why is this happening? How can I maintain the players performance level?

Just a shot in the dark, but what have you set his peak stats to? If those are more normal, he probably would decline.

The Career Peak stats were set to superstar levels as well.

I’ve noticed this too. I believe the reason that this happens is to maintain long-term statistical stability. Perhaps Clay could give us some insight as to why this happens.

I'd tend to agree. I would like to be able to create such superstars without having to change their stats every year.

The issue is that the game will not allow someone to be that great. It lowers his skill no matter where his peak is.

That's correct. Since I'm trying to model some of the surprises you see in baseball, there is random variation. And before I added this code, the variation would sometimes create too many "Superstar" players.

I could see adding a checkbox in the League Editor called 'Allow Superhuman Players' that turns this off.

Personally, I have found the variability to be interesting, but I do have a question regarding peaks for historical players -- are those "hardwired" based on the statistical database you are using, or is there a random element? I ask because in my current run, I am in the 1983 season, so I am seeing players I know well, and there is a disparity in the peak figures and history. Much as I appreciated Robby Thompson's play at second base for the Giants, there is no way he has a peak of 100 while Ryne Sandberg has a peak of only 88. Robby was a good, solid, reliable second baseman, but he was NOT a superstar of Sandberg's calibre.

Try switching simulation mode. That will make players careers be more acurate to real life.

Remember that, in Baseball Mogul, how a player is brought up through the minors has a tremedous amount of influence on how well a player developes. Also, if a team has a strong minor league system, it can actually raise a players peak rating. If you notice that too many players are not reaching their potential, you could always go into the league editor and raise the minor league promotion percentages. Personally, I use +40(A),+50(AA),+80(AAA) in seasons prior to 1960 and +30(A),+40(AA),+70(AAA) in seasons after 1960 but you may want to do some experimenting to find percentages that work according to your own personal tastes.

also, if you see the homerun production go down, i have noticed that the doubles go up...
