What affects fan loyalty? Obviously, a team's performance throughout a season, ticket prices and exposure, but I also heard that star players can increase fan loyalty. Is this true? If so, what players affect loyalty? All-stars? Award winners? Does a vetren player who has been on all star teams in the past bring in more fans?

Many factors affect fan loyalty...star players are an important aspect of loyalty.
Basically, star players (former all-stars fit this bill) often bring a huge increase in fans.
For instance, I might cut 35 pts in salary by unloading Richard Hidlago from my Houston team at age 37, but my attendance probably will plummet. I've seen it before where teams cut an old vet, trying to make more money, and end up losing money because fans are angry.

Another big aspect is that fans love a winner. If you get to the postseason you get a bump in your fan loyalty. If you win the championship you get a big bump.
But each year you do badly, your fans get a little less loyal...
Also, things like being able to see the games on TV, and being able to afford to go the the ballpark helps. People forget about a team that they never see...
Cheers,
James
